I went to the Porthole last night , there was some excitement over a new espresso martini “machine”… I HAD to give one a try .This was the most deliciously smooth and tasty and beautifully presented martini there ever could be … I HIGHLY recommend.( it IS the perfect drink for a late night of dancing )5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ x 1,000 for the awesome service as well

This place is an old hole in the wall bar and restaurant. The food is excellent. I ordered the sea scallops, and they were perfectly done. Big, plump, and well seared. My friend had a lobster roll that was simply bursting with lobster. It's hidden down an alleyway, so you have to look for it. If you find it, be prepared to eat!

The food is good and tasty, but the portions are small and expensive. The service is just okay.

I am very disappointed. I am born and raised in New England. Over the last 10 years I have sent literally, hundreds to The Porthole.I was on town today, and arranged my schedule to stop by the Porthole for Fried Clams. The guests I brought with me had the Lobster Roll, which looked amazing and they absolutely loved. My Fried Clams were a despicable. Instead of Fries, I substituted a salad. The VERY few clams, maybe 6, were disguised in a mix of Fried Shrimp...they were EXTREMELY overcooked, and they arrived on mound of French fries. It really was absolutely awful.Ok, mistakes happen. I am the first to admit it. However, my over all perception is I was being decieved to spend $35 on what a tourist would think this is a traditional New England food.I will say, the server was gracious and tried to correct this. I was embarrassed for her. I did decline the offer. My guests were finished dinning and we were exhausted. Our travels began at 3AM. Honestly, I was actually offended I was served this quality of food. I will not go back.

I highly enjoyed the lobster roll and clam chowder (I like my clam chowder a little thicker, this one is watery) I left wanting more the lobster was not chewy and the aioli that they put on it really makes it. I had them put the aioli on the side and the butter and they where both good but man that aioli takes it some place else. Excellent!!! It wasn’t really busy when I went so the atmosphere was kind of blah! It took a while for anyone to say hi, tons of employees walked right by, even stub there talking to each other and even the manager and not even a hi. But when the bartender finally came it was good.

We where just passing through Portland found this place. Wonderful people. We tried the raw oysters.. ( when in Rome) . She told me the best way to eat them. And than said thank you for trying them. What a nice thing to say. I really liked this place.

The best breakfast we've ever had in the entire country - it's that good! Get the French toast. Or the crab and lobster omelette. Off the charts delicious! The service is exceptional and so is the dog friendly deck with beautiful views. We will be back!!

Friendly and attentive service overshadowed by bad food. Huevos Rancheros were nearly inedible, the black beans had clearly gone bad and the steak was tough and chewy, the whole plate was cold. Other people in my party had great food, and the drinks were excellent.
