My husband and I had a very happy experience at The Happy Clam! We sat on the deck and enjoyed not just the beautiful early-fall evening but everything about our evening: the warm welcome of the owner, the friendly and efficient service, and the delicious meal. We shared a rich, tasty chowder as a starter and then, enjoying it so much, I ordered another cup for my main. My husband, a seafood snob, declared the haddock A+. A full parking lot on a mid-week evening is a testament to just how popular The Happy Clam is with locals and visitors. It was our first time at the restaurant but won't be our last.
We had a truly enjoyable dinner at The Happy Clam. The lobster rolls were outstanding, full of fresh, sweet lobster meat, lightly dressed, and served on a perfectly toasted bun with fries, cole slaw, and warm drawn butter. The portions were generous, and every bite tasted authentic to Maine.
Inside the restaurant was comfortable and clean, with plenty of seating and a relaxed atmosphere. What made the meal even better was the service. Our server was kind, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcome from the moment we walked in. It’s clear that the staff take pride in both the food and the experience they provide.
If you’re visiting the area, this is exactly the kind of place you want to stop: great food, friendly people, and a true taste of Maine hospitality. Highly recommend!

A really excellent small restaurant. The food is delicious. We got the German entries and thought they were wonderful. Looking forward to eating there another time.

We are traveling Maine on our sailboat and had one of our favorite meals here! The host was very nice and so was our waitress. We sat on the patio as we had our pup with us - they had umbrellas for every table so it didn’t get too hot. The schnitzels that we ordered were delicious. We would definitely return here!
We had a great dinner at Happy Clam including 2 lbs of fresh steamers, haddock stuffed w crabmeat and sherry sauce, grilled scallops, and German sides! This place is so unique and the owners are amazing and don’t miss the gift shop for a tee. Not a place to miss on the mid coast!

What a lovely surprise to find delectable home cooked flavors in the mid-coast region of Maine. It’s a constant disappointment to find gorgeous eateries on the coast that go the lazy crazy route and do Sysco frozen garbage. Why are they serving frozen, superprocessed food? Because a million tourists won’t know the difference. As locals we know better. And from the lobster Mac and cheese with as much lobster as pasta in a cheese sauce that rivals my own!!—to the coffee can size absolutely amazing crabcakes, (HUGE, homemade, bursting with crabmeat not just a heap of seasoned breading) to the frogs legs( yes, you read that right! Tender, perfectly prepared and delicious!!), we enjoyed every morsel. It’s tough to give a review of 12 out of 10 because dammit we want to keep this treasure a secret! But the public should know—this eatery offers really delicious homemade seafood and German traditional favorites, hiding out right there in Tenants Harbor/St. George. Live music, fantastic food, and the best service we’ve experienced in a very long time. Get over there and experience truly above average food and outstanding service, without the bougie, pretentious attitudes (yeah, I’m looking at you, Craignair Inn—we certainly won’t be back to visit to tolerate the lifeless staff or glaring, sullen bartender—yuck!) or price points in the midcoast. The Happy Clam is our new number one favorite!
