Dinner at The Chart Room at Black Point Inn was easily one of the highlights of our Maine trip. We started with fresh oysters and warm rolls, followed by a lobster roll and the Black Point Burger with perfectly cooked, crispy fries. We finished with dessert, and judging by the empty plate, I’d say that speaks for itself.
The food was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. The burger was cooked exactly as ordered, the lobster roll was packed with sweet lobster meat, and even the bread service stood out. But what truly sets this place apart is the atmosphere. Watching the sun begin to set over the water from the outdoor patio made for an unforgettable dining experience.
The service was friendly, attentive, and never rushed, allowing us to relax and enjoy the evening.
If you’re visiting the Scarborough area, make a reservation around sunset. Between the incredible views, outstanding food, and excellent service, The Chart Room is absolutely worth the visit. We’ll definitely be back.

Food and wait staff was good. However the person who showed us to our table was not. We were a table of four. She poured water for three and asked me to pass my glass to her. She then filled it and placed it at the end of the table not returning it to my spot. The server who delivered our drinks and meals had no such problem.

The inn is always lovely. The view is perfect. This time both my husband and I were very disappointed in the food. My cream of tomato soup was not flavorful. My lobster roll was tasteless. Was the lobster fresh? My husband had the fish n chips. The fish was so over salted, it was virtually inedible. the desserts were good. For $147 lunch plus tip not a good value

Very disappointed in our dinner experience. Submitted “special instructions” as requested in the reservation app and it was clear no one had bothered to look at it. (We were celebrating a special birthday) -Jazz trio was so loud we couldn't hear each other, even though they were in another room - they ran out of the dinner special by the time we arrived at 7pm - they forgot our appetizer - the food was “ok” and definitely not worth the price paid However, the waitress was lovely and none of the issues were her fault.

The service was very good - a lovely young waitperson who did her very best. The food was mediocre, and sadly, not hot when it reached our table. The speciality drinks were nothing special and the wine was just fair. It felt like the inn was living off faded and past glory.

Our experience and service was mediocre and when you're paying $30 - $40 for an entree I feel it should have been much better. Our drinks were all wrong, we waited a long time to get them and had to ask another waitress where they were, our steaks were delivered and we waited 5 minutes for a steak knife. Our appetizers weren't cleared or even finished before our entrees were brought out. It just didn't seem like the standards were high. It's such a beautiful place and could be some much more.

Come on Chart Room. You can do better. A $25 club sandwich that was a regular white bread sandwich with a big hunk of turkey and small piece of bacon. I'm a local and I'm done.

We have eaten at the Chart Room twice. Both times were a disappointment. The atmosphere and service were fantastic but the food needs help. The chowder was cold, lobster roll had no flavor and the lobster meat was mushy. The fries were cooked but white with no crispiness. The tagliatelle with pork shoulder would have been good but tasted like a salt lick. I will say, the blueberry pie is very good. We had that the first time we ate there.

We were there with a group celebrating my parents' anniversary. Most of us left complaining about the food quality for the price. General concensus, the food was overcooked and dry, that includes the cake. Views are beautiful, maybe stop in for a drink on the deck, skip the food. You've been warned.

The hostesses are so rude it’s no wonder the reviews are so bad at this place. Looked online around 4pm and saw endless available reservations for the entire evening — a weird thing for a restaurant on a Saturday but was good to know. Decided not to reserve as it didn’t seem like it was necessary as they were clearly NOT in high demand whatsoever, and their website also specifically notes that they take walk-ins. Showed up with my parents around 530pm and sure enough the restaurant and patio were 70% empty. My parents usually like to start with drinks and things to share and go from there.
When we walked up to the hostess stand the hostess with glasses immediately greeted us, not by smiling or saying hello, but by looking at the other hosts standing around and loudly saying “DO THEY HAVE A RESERVATION??” When we told her we did not and just wanted to have cocktails and appetizers on the patio, she couldn’t contain her excitement to tell us that tables were ONLY for reservations or people having dinner and that we could stand at the bar and order our own drinks and then carry them ourselves to the random Adirondack chairs on their front lawn. There were five of us all planning to have cocktails and appetizers, which surely would cost more than 2 people having dinner there at a table, but it’s very important to the hostess that she gets to tell people “no” even when there is literally nobody at your empty restaurant on a Saturday and there are no reservations coming. If that’s how you treat people who walk in, maybe change your policy and make reservations required, as you clearly DONT accept walk ins.
Beyond how bad the reviews are for the food, it completely makes sense why I never hear of anyone coming here for any reason. And it’s a shame because the bartenders were very nice and the drinks were decent, and we would have stayed and ordered a lot more if we had been made to feel welcomed. The bartenders and waitstaff should know that the hostesses are actively turning away business and leaving customers with a bad impression as well. I would never bring a group here again only because of the hostesses and their absolute lack of tact and hospitality.
