This was a fantastic, and romantic date for me and my significant other on Valentine's Day. The menu was small but delicious. Very small place with a bar and tables. Lighting gives a romantic feel and the music isn't your typical feel but still was enjoyable. We ordered the lasagna and the filet mignon. They were amazing and so flavorful and tasted very healthy and organic. We also got the flourless torte cake I believe it was and trust me get it! It was delicious. Overall very happy with this experience
I heard that one of the original chefs had returned to take over the kitchen, so I figured I’d make the hour long trek because this place used to be one of my favorites. As expected, I was not disappointed. I loved the eclectic menu and the locally sourced goods. It feels good to know your food came from the farm down the road, especially in a time when farmers need our support! As someone with dietary restrictions, I was thrilled to have multiple options to choose from, which is impressive given that the menu is small. The limited menu allows space for impeccable attention to detail, and lets the chef’s creativity shine and the flavors burst. The burrata was to die for, and the dressed oysters were a game changer as someone who has always been on the fence about oysters. One thing I love about this place is that many of the dishes feel on par with a high end restaurant without the expectations of having to dress the part. Be it a date, or a good bite to eat after a long days work, this place is approachable, and shouldn’t be overlooked.
Dietary restrictions: There were several gluten free options to choose from. The menu changes regularly so it may vary, but I believe they post it on social media and since each dish is prepared from scratch you can make informed decisions!

We were sadly disappointed with our meal. The weekly menu offered only 4 “small plates” and 3 “large plates”. The selections looked quite interesting, so we ordered 3 of the small and 1 large. They did not skimp on portion size, so that's good. But across the board, seasonings were heavy-handed, making dishes barely edible. Way too much salt in everything. Too much garlic in hummus, too much dressing on the salad, too much confit on the burrata (which featured lots of pomegranate seeds instead of the promised strawberries), too much hot sauce and oil floating on the soup. Not only did this affect flavor, but it made dishes less visually appealing - kind of sloppy looking. The service was fine and the drinks were very good.
We had a great dinner Saturday, the dressed oysters were amazing 🤤
The Block is a jewel on the MidCoast, nestled in historic Thomaston. Featuring fantastic food from a select menu. We had the Mother's Day brunch starring chef “Wiley” who delivered mouth watering brisket hash and French suzette toast. Boom! Owner Marty personally handled the front of the house, making us feel like family.
Love the food, great service nice vibe. A tad loud and the menu is maybe not for everyone, but you can't beat the freshies. The chairs ae uncomfortable for long stretches - no lumbar support.
First time there but certainly will be it be the last. Friendly, efficient service and delicious food in a warm, comfortable setting.
The Block never disappoints! The staff are super friendly and accommodating and the food is outstanding. A great addition to Main St Thomaston!

Really delicious dinner of pasta and scallops, sharing a salad. Staff are friendly. Only less than outstanding was the music was too loud, but then we didn't ask to turn it down. Local scallops were local and a large portion; next time we'll share it.
The entire restaurant was filled with smoke, so much so that everyone's eyes in my party were stinging by half way through our experience. Ordering and being served four burgers took over 1.5 hours. The only saving Grace we're the cocktails, which were quite good.
Very limited menu that changes often so hard to know what will be available. If you are sensitive to some foods (we are), the kitchen was not willing to accommodate us. We made it work and the food was very good. They have lots of cocktails, limited but good selection of wine and beer. It is certainly worth a try if you can take it just as they serve it.
Menu used to be eclectic and exciting. Now it is boring, bland and the food is poor. Lasagna in a mushroom sauce? Dry focaccia. No fresh fish. No oysters. Only meat is a burger. Where o where is the founding chef?
