I love The Last Unicorn. I moved out of state for the past few years, and came back last year. I wanted to go to the Unicorn, so I checked the website, their Facebook, and Google to see the hours, then tried to go there last night. They were closed without hours on the door or any indication that they're ever open!Whether they are or not I won't make the trip to try again unfortunately. Beware of the posted hours.
Welllll... Google says you're open but sign in window says on vacation ? is this place closed permanently?
The Last (time I’ll go to the) Unicorn RestaurantCall me sentimental, but I used to work at this restaurant during its Hay Day. I remember lines out the door with people waiting on the sidewalk to get in. I remember the food quality always being so high and unique. I wouldn’t call the prices to be exorbitant, rather competitive, but you always had a great evening regardless of how much you spent. Sadly, this is no longer the case. I went to this place last Friday, what a joke! One person, a very nice man was working the front, haggardly wearing the host hat as well as the waiter, busboy, and bartender hat. It’s funny because if all the other restaurants in Waterville that night weren’t overwhelmingly packed (even in COVID), one look at the prices would have made me get up and walk out. Who charges $24.99 for Chicken Parmesan? I can make it for $6.00. I stayed and ordered my favorite Cajun Salmon with basmati rice and a salad. The salad did not come before the meal as it usually does, probably because there was only one waitperson on that evening. The salmon came overdone and dry, but I was so hungry it didn’t matter.I can no longer recommend this place or refer to it as one of my favorites and it breaks my heart. Good luck to whomever is running this establishment. It may do well for now with all the overflow customers (those who really planned on going somewhere else). Once the new restaurant opens inside the new hotel, this place will struggle for sure. The Waterville community can’t afford its prices for the subpar food they serve, and with one person, up front running the show, the service is going to decline. The old cliche is true, "All good things must come to an end." Too bad because I used to love this place!
This place is much better than it used to be. Brighter interior, new bar, a menu that is inspired and delicious. Can't wait to see what they do next .
Dunes outside. Waiter was very attentive and efficient. He knew how dishes were prepared. Food was good but not as distinctiveas I have experienced in the past.
Excellent selection of food and friendly staff.
Oh my goodness! We had the best time. It was great food, great staff, and great prices! Thank you for having us!
Great food and service
Always awesome ?. Great cocktails?& good food.
Tasty crab cakes. Portions are ok, but a bit pricey. Nice outdoor dining area to enjoy a pretty day!

Place was over priced and food was over done....highly recommend the jalepeno margarita though
Always love dining here. Wait staff is courteous and very attentive, and the food is always so fresh and delicious.
Best food in the state!!! Fresh ingredients great chef and this is the place to take a special someone. The price reflects the taste and service. Places like this are truly the last unicorns!!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience
Never thought that a small town in Maine would be home to such an amazing restaurant! Not only is the food delicious, the menu is so well rounded with foods both traditional and unexpected, we would have liked to taste everything on the menu if we could eat so much. The stuffed poblano was succulent, the potato pierogi the best we have ever had (and we have had pierogi in authentic Polish restaurants before). The short ribs were falling off the bone, with creamy mashed potatoes, the chicken wings fingerlicking good. All dishes we tried were very flavorful and perfectly seasoned. After eating like kings, what topped everything was the unbelievable cheesecake with pecan praline. The creaminess and flavor of the cheesecake has me now searching for a similar taste bud experience since, but nothing compares even here in my home city of New York! The food quality and menu are only matched by the friendliness and professionalism of the staff, in particular our host and waiter Paul. He took time to explain the items on the menu and detail, had interesting conversation with us about Waterville and beyond, and was a pleasure to interact with.Another big plus is that the Last Unicorn is located at a convenient location on a beautiful plaza with outdoor seating in the spring and summer, where we had the pleasure to dine last summer with an equally enjoyable experience; even though, even if at a different location, we would go out of our way to get there. We'll make sure to return every time we are in Maine!
This restaurant I have been to twice. The first time left me in awe. The second time 10 years later was a reunion of taste. The freshness and the emotion in this food is a treat to a true foodie. I would gladly recommend this place to all. The service is perfect. They give you space without leaving you high and dry. The way the food comes out and the timing of the food reaching a table is perfect!!! This place is magical.
