Visiting Wells over the Columbus Day weekend and my bf ordered the Clam basket at market price of $32. But there couldn't have been more than a handful - not even bellies. What a waste of money. The fried pickles were plenty but no dipping sauce. Very disappointed. The staff was terse - looked like we just annoyed her out the gate. Won't be back.

DO NOT EAT HERE !! The food is some of the worst I've ordered compared with other comparable venues. I agree with other reviews indicating that the owner is an ANGRY man and yells and screams at his customers if they question anything about his food or service! Do yourself a favor and pass this one by... A very sad state of affairs there!

Incredibly disturbing proprieter … refused to give my husband a glass of tap water insisting we must buy his water. Yelled at him for bringing his own small stainless container and after 15 minutes came out and refused to serve us the order we had paid for because he was so
Angry and worked We have never had such rude service on our west coast-ever! This can’t be typical of Maine hospitality! Terrible experience!

My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch. We were greeted by a hostess that clearly did not want to be there. She took our drink order and came back a short while later with the drinks and took our order. We shred the haddock sandwich which was very good. The inside of the restaurant was clean and charming. I would give it another chance and hope for a friendlier server.

Expensive for roadside, beyond that food and staff were great, friendly and clean place to eat.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! Go to Spinnakers right down the street. I never write reviews, but the interaction with the owner was absolutely the worst service experience. If he cared at all about service he would go to take an anger management class. My son has a sesame allergy and I ordered him a Honey BBQ chicken wrap. The staff person went to ask about the allergy and the owner angrily yells at me “there are sesame seeds everywhere.” The miserable man clearly was upset with me for even asking. Regardless of allergies, he is obviously not following any cleanliness expectations. Who doesn’t clean their work station? Even bagel shops can contain sesame seeds. God only knows what else is “everywhere” and other food and beverage policies he is not following. Can only imagine how disgusting the kitchen is after such a comment. Also, I have never seen a wrap with sesame seeds. Nevertheless, we left and went to Spinnakers which had great service and great food. In reading other reviews, it’s clear I am not the only who had this type of experience. His angry demeanor and his rudeness towards customers goes years back.

My wife had a 20.00 for haddock bites that maybe was the size of 1 1/2 filet o fish at McDonald's not impressed. We stopped 4 times on an hour ride home for my wife to sit in bathrooms so maybe bad oil. Horrible!!

Spend your vacation money with businesses that appreciate it. This one does not.

Over the past five years we've been here several times and literally every time I've witnessed some level of altercation between the very nasty owner and a patron. Today was my turn. I was sympathetic to him until now, but having firsthand experience dealing with him, it is clear why people tend to get into scrapes with him. Lousy attitude, confrontational demeanor, insulting and degrading... dude, grow up.

So here's what happened: We paid extra for a shared plate but were refused a second plate so we could... ya know... SHARE IT. He outright refused. We're talking about a paper plate. One. I asked twice and was basically told to go pound salt. I walked away without another word and was told I was throwing a tantrum. Part of me wishes I'd actually given him a demonstration of one after that, but one of us had to be the grown up...

I have never experienced anything quite like this and will not be risking it again. As a business owner myself, I cannot for the life of me understand the logic here. I've given discounts and scrapped charges for people many times just to maintain good relations and we're not talking about a ten cent paper plate. Unbelievable. My business has survived every minor concession and those concessions have usually led to repeat and loyal business. I would be out of business within a year if I was this much of a jerk to my clientele. Be glad yours is a tourist business, pal. It's the only thing keeping you going - no need for return customers. Take the money and run.
