EDIT: I originally gave 1 star due to a bad takeout experience. The owner reached out and had us come in to try the food again. It was a totally different experience! The employees had great recommendations and we both enjoyed our food. If you are trying Chow for the first time, I’d recommend going in to get a good idea of the different toppings and seasonings offered. There’s also a lot of seating inside. We were able to make our noodles spicy and the flavor was great. I am glad that we went back, we were not disappointed!

This place is so, so good. Go support them cause it’s always empty when I go but the food is really fresh and always good.

This was my second time eating at Chow and I'm glad I came back! I had come the first day they opened last year, and it was clear they had to fix up a few things. They totally have. Instead of being a total make-your-own-bowl place, they now have some pre-made bowls which you can also customize if you want. The ordering process is so easy and they have really yummy, and spicy! vegetarian and vegan options. I made a custom noodle bowl - called "light" (the smaller portion...but it was still a lot of noodles!) but it was tossed with a hot oil, then I got the tofu as my protein (They're like tofu meatballs!), cilantro, bok choy, pickled red onion and green onion. I added more sambal oelek hot sauce on mine, but holy crap - this was so good! The staff was so attentive and friendly too. Ryan and Josh were fantastic folks who were knowledgable in the food, the flavors and offered suggestions of how to eat certain noodle bowls or rice bowls. I can't wait to go back! :)

Yum yum yum! I recommend the Masala Pork dumplings, tteokbokki, and klepon. I had the Szechuan chicken bowl and the chicken was so moist and flavorful. I love the noodles! There are so many options for mixing and matching. Such a fun stop for lunch or dinner! And the service was EXCELLENT!

I'm disappointed in Chow. I was really excited when they first opened, and think maybe my excitement blinded me to the reality the first few times I went there. Recently, my husband I were in the area craving a late-night snack. With Kosmo's and Chow so close together, he put the decision up to me, and I chose Chow since we haven't been in a while. First of all, they've changed their menu since the last time I was there, so it's a little easier to navigate, with some pre-defined bowls that take the guesswork out of designing your own, which I appreciate. But I don't love how there are no signs for any of the salads/toppings you can add- there are so many to choose from, but I just literally have no idea what most of them are, and I feel like it's frustrating to both the customer and the staff to have to try to point them all out. I noticed they have bubble tea now, which is very on-trend for Ann Arbor at the moment, but the two flavors (milk and fruit) were premixed, sitting in big containers on the counter. With so many bubble tea places in the area that freshly make their tea and allow unlimited customization with flavors, toppings, etc., I was just thinking "why would anyone order this?" As for the food we ordered: I thought the pork dumplings would be just the right thing to satisfy my snack craving, but they were thin and weirdly extra hard/crispy, and I didn't especially love the filling either. It did not taste at all like a Chinese dumpling, and maybe that's on purpose (they ARE called pork masala dumplings, so maybe they're supposed to be more Indian-inspired) but it is not what I expected and I did not especially enjoy it (though I did like the dipping sauce). I tried my husband's noodle bowl in hopes that would impress me, but was disappointed by the dry, somewhat tasteless beef. The noodles were ok, but nothing to write home about. Overall, Chow has ok fast-casual Asian food, but there are so many better options in town.

The only reason I'm commenting is because they call it "chef-driven". Sorry, but these were the most embarrassing dumplings ever, pretty much what Ibwould ecpect to find sitting on a rolling hot dog heater at a 7-11. They look like they had shriveled and dried to nothing during the time they sat behind the counter here. The bao was gross. The bowl was bland and cold. The reason these places can stay alive is because they mainly serve rice. That bowl is 75% rice, the rest is $8 of garnish.
