I'm a big fan of Lowertown Cafe, especially as someone who spends a lot of time on North Campus. The coffee is great, using Hyperion Coffee beans, and it's a great place to work during the day. At night, Lowertown turns into a bar, and hosts my favorite trivia night. The drinks are reasonably priced, service is good, and it's a fun place to hang out with friends. They're always changing and improving things, like the new pergola on their large outdoor patio....
Perfect spot to visit with friends or get some homework done. Just away from campus enough that it’s not a hassle to get there, but it’s not constantly bustling. Early mornings here are the best, and I honestly can’t think of a coffee shop in Ann Arbor with an aesthetic I appreciate more, although maybe Vertex is a tie.
