Jen was the best bartendress in the world- she hooks it up. Truly a savant behind the bar. Like Rembrandt painting- but mixing up some killer mixed drinks & PBRs

Mash offers a pretty solid bar-going experience in Ann Arbor. A group of us stopped by recently after a night downtown, looking to find somewhere we could grab a drink and catch up. Mash fit the bill (pun intended hah) and did the job just fine.

The drink menu is pretty expansive, both as far as liquor selection and cocktails as well. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that they have a few standard mocktails that they’re known for! I tried the raspberry mock mule, and I’m happy to report that it’s a hit. Great flavor and super refreshing, plus it offers a fun drink even if you’re not drinking. The bartender was super nice and helped break down all the options as well.

The crowd at mash is more collegiate than I was expecting — I thought a whiskey inspired bar would driver an older crowd, but the bar was packed with early 20-somethings on a Saturday night. If you show up past 9pm on the weekend, there’s a good chance you won’t find a seat and will have to wait 20 minutes to get through the line at the bar, but Mash serves as a great place to meet up with the crew. As we were leaving around 11, we spotted a huge line out the door trying to get in too; it seems like the collegiate clientele have really designated Mqsh as the place to be on a weekend night!

Overall, I’d recommend Mash — I’m looking forward to going back and trying out more of their menu!

In basement, with an authentic dive bar vibe. Good band playing covers when I was there. Small, but active dance floor. Some interesting craft beers. Order at the bar. Presume you can order food from Pretsel Bell upstairs. I didn't check the bathrooms.

It was $20 for one shot of whiskey and I went across the street and I got the same thing at sidetrack for eight dollars. I will never come back to this place.

Great place to catch some live music with much cheaper beer than main street.

This was a really cool spot! Whiskey selection was pretty good and I had several while there. The bartender made a couple decent cocktails.

The atmosphere is really cool and it was live music on a Thursday!

Always a good time at Mash with friends. Drink deals are good, I recommend the Grandpa combo :) music is pretty much always excellent, there’s something for everyone. Security cares about maintaining a safe environment.

The bartenders are great. The reason for 4 stars is that they need more perhaps. I've been there several times when it's so crowded it can take a long time to get a drink. Also, sometimes hard to get seat. But that shows you how popular they are. Good selection of booze and cool basement vibe. The building used to be my dad's office building and I used to work in the basement (now Mash). So it's kind of a trip for me to be down there drinking now. LOL

I don't get why people love this place. Every time I've been here, they are woefully understaffed and have one dude behind the bar servicing, like, 40 people. If it's the bearded guy... RIP, you ain't getting a drink lol. The wait time for a single drink is easily >20 minutes. Hire more staff. Can't speak on the food.

Mash doesn't have food, but the rest of it is amazing. They have a mix of different bourbons, whiskeys from all over the world, and of course your generic spirits. Combine a cool (and literally) underground atmosphere with live music most nights and you get a great place to go to grab a drink and never worry about a wait or it being over crowded!

The bartender with the beard was serving. He served me a drink and I went to the bathroom. After I came back the guy said that I had to leave because there was a private party and I couldn't be there. So I just asked him to let me finish my drink because I didn't even start. He started to become more hostile, almost yelling and told me to leave immediately. Wow! I don't know who this guy is but how can you let such people work in these places? If you have a private party and you can't be there why wouldn't you say that before I buy a drink?Worst experience ever.
