Step into a piece of history at this authentic German restaurant! Celebrating 90 years in business and run by the fourth generation of the founding family, this spot offers a truly rare and reliable dining experience.
The food is fantastic, known for its big portions that satisfy any appetite. They feature great daily featured entrées, ensuring there's always something new to try alongside the classics. Expect great service that matches the warm, enduring quality of the establishment. While the prices range from $$$-$$$$, the heritage and authenticity make it completely worthwhile.

Who keeps posting these GOOD reviews? Went there ONCE with my children and spatzel was overcooked mush. Roulade was like days old overcooked MUSH. Everything my family got was like overcooked MUSH. Just gross and even teenagers like this place GROSS.

This. This is what I wanted. This is the German food experience I was craving. When I was little my parents used to drag me around to every ethnic restaurant around. Polish was usually the go-to but Richter’s (now closed) German restaurant in Dearborn was rotated in quite a bit! It has been probably two decades since I had Richter’s so I was on a hunt for the best German food near me and my first stop was the Rathskeller and they weren’t it.
I was left with a bad taste in my mouth and determined to find better. I had some time so I took the journey outside of Ann Arbor and found a gem! Metzgers was everything I was craving!
The batter on the schnitzel was perfectly flaky and properly seasoned. The pork was thin but not like paper. The fried potatoes were a combination of fluffy and crispy.
I was going to get the black Forrest cake but the couple next to me raved about The carrot cake. They were right to rave because it was moist, light, creamy, and huge!
I’m going to back track a little and back up to the salad. It was a fresh light salad and I’m pretty sure they make their own croutons. But, the dressing. The creamy garlic dressing almost brought a tear to my eye. When my Mom was alive she used to make dressing exactly like this. I thought I’d never have it again. I know it’s just a dressing and I could probably look up the recipe but today this made my day.
Metzger’s you have earned a new customer I will be back and thanks to the couple next to me next time I’ll be trying the Reuben!

Great food and friendly service.
Carrots cake is fantastic. Beef short ribs were excellent also
The food was great, the waitress was great. We didn't have to wait for a seat. Everyone at the restaurant seemed and sounded happy. Great Friday night out for dinner.
Cabbage rolls. Homemade mashed potatoes that need no gravy but get some on the side. Red cabbage! Oh yummo!
It is probably the closest restaurant to real german food I have had in Michigan ,we had a very nice lunch and the Weizen Bier was great, our Waitress Maiah was super nice and a pleasure to be around, we will definitely go back
