When you need love, food, hope, joy, go here. Sylvia is living her vocation; she is a staple of Ann Arbor; don’t miss out on spending time and eating here.

Tamales and pupusas are meant to be eaten with salsa and curtado; which is always a magical combination of flavors. Horchata is so good I can’t resist drinking the whole thing at once.

Today I tried the jalapeño and cheese tamale - steaming and slathered with salsa and plenty of curtado. It was like a grilled cheese and a tamale had a baby. So good.

A little hole in the wall.
You wouldn't expect this awesome food in this location. Buried in a little strip mall.

My partner found in on Google Maps.
Since we were going to be in Ann Arbor during the day we were trying to find a place for lunch

We both had Tamales. I normally do not care for the traditional beef or chicken Tamales. I had The spicy pulled pork Tamales. Totallyoutof this world. I had two . Enjoyed every bite.

Just tried out Pilar’s and I’m a huge fan!! The tamales are what I came for, I got the spicy pulled pork that came with some homemade salsa, so so good. First time ever trying a Pupusas; corn tortilla with bean and cheese and filled it with their pickled cabbage and of course, salsa; excellent. I’ve never been a big fan of plantains… these little bad boys were incredible.

Food was amazing and the staff are friendly and engaging! 100% coming back!!

Also the best horchata I have ever had.

Best tamales around. Great drinks, the hibiscus and watermelon are my favorites, all made from scratch. Plantians were great and so was everything else. Try the fried Yuca, it takes a minute to cook but so worth the wait. Can't wait to go back.

The watermelon Agua Fresca is the best. Good variety of tamales for all preferences.

The pupusas were the worst I have ever had. They were not made fresh, they were the ones that you can get in the frozen food section.

I remember getting these pupusas at the grocery store and thought they were a very poor excuse for pupusas but were a quick snack on par with microwave pizza rolls. The ones they have at this restaurant are worse than that. Absolutely terrible.

If I could give negative stars I could, it's bad.

I don't normally leave reviews for bad restaurants, but I just had to this time. The audacity to charge as much as they do for these pupusas is crazy. It's highway robbery. You can get the real thing for much cheaper elsewhere. I got 2 "pupusas", plantains, and a horchata for almost $30.

How can the worst pupusas I've ever had also be the most expensive? it blows my mind.

The plantains were good though
