This place just...isn't it (take it from an Indian). Their servers are fine, little standoffish at times, and they forgot stuff every so often. The naans are also just fine, but the curries are so lame. There's no depth of flavor, the curries are all somewhat the same, the lassi is trash. Someone needs to replace this place because this food is so bad. Go to madras masala, or if without car, namaste flavours.

Wonderful menu. We arrived for an early reservation for 6 and the staff were welcoming and very attentive. We selected a nice variety of vegetarian, curry and rice dishes as well as regular and stuffed naan. We enjoyed it all. Favorite appetizer was the Samosa Chaat...yum! Chicken Vindaloo was our favorite main.
Horrible experience food was not good would not recommend
Our go to restaurant in downtown for many years! Reasonably priced, great food, quick service, lovely outdoor dining during the summer where you can take in a beautiful Michigan evening and experience the best of downtown Ann Arbor.
Food wasn't great, it didn't taste of much at all - the best part was the bread. The food was very slow to come out, but the server was very nice

Great location and good Indian food choices. Lassi was very good, and sweet. Matched very nicely with the meal. Service was excellent, even though the restaurant was nearly full, the service was very much on the ball.
I’m so deeply bummed. I had a reservation here for my birthday dinner, and I was really looking forward to it. In the 90 minutes we spent in this restaurant, the only thing they brought us was soda (and only after we flagged the server down and asked about the sodas that we had ordered 30 minutes prior). I really wish I had gotten the opportunity to try the food. In the hour and a half we sat in this restaurant, they did not bring us a single food item. Maybe the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

We had a 7:45 reservation. It took them about half an hour to get us our waters. We didn’t get the *canned beverages* we ordered until 9:00, and only because we flagged someone down. Let me tell you, it’s frustrating to watch 3 servers clean a table when you don’t even have a drink yet. We left at 9:15, an hour and a half after we arrived, when we were told the food had “15 minutes” to go. (I was only told this when I directly approached waitstaff, since it seemed like they were damn near avoiding us.) I’m extremely disappointed and I won’t be returning.

The food was pretty good. The service was not. At all. They didn't take our order for over an hour. We ordered appetizers, which took a solid 45 minutes to come out, and weren't able to order our meal intro after the appetizers had been cleared. And then it still took 45 minus for that food to come out.
If this was an hour and a half meal, it would have been great. At three hours it was fine.

While we enjoyed the food, I can't say that we'd ever go back after the abysmal service. Our dinner for seven took several hours. Our drink and appetizer order wasn't taken for over half an hour after we were seated, and those items didn't arrive until an hour after we'd been seated. I like that they left a pitcher of water on the table, but they didn't refill it until we asked multiple times, and we only had six glasses for seven people and never got another despite asking repeatedly. Our food then took another hour to arrive, and that was after they brought us the wrong order, put it down, then took it away. The table next to ours became so frustrated by the poor service that they walked out. Further, there was no acknowledgment of the long wait and issues from the restaurant.
We've eaten at Shalimar a couple of times. Although the food is decent, the service is poor. This is not the servers fault. This restaurant seems to frequently understaff even on evenings they know will be very busy, like parent's weekend with a home football game. Everything we ordered took forever to arrive and some things never arrived, like chutney which was needed for the meal and a second round of drinks. We sat outside and there was literally one server for at least 10 tables, thats crazy! The same thing appeared to be going on inside as we could only see our server and one other. Not only was this not fair to the server, it made him grumpy with us and the other tables around us, but I don't blame him. I'm actually shocked he didn't just walk out. Not sure we'll be going back.
Had a wonderful tasty dinner with my family. Everyone loved all the dishes. Food was delicious as always. Service was great too.
This is hands down one of the worst Indian places I’ve eaten at.
The veg Manchurian was decent. They gave us plain papad instead of masala papad which was corrected soon but not great.
The kadhai paneer I got was deeply m, deeply disappointing. We asked for spicy and I got basically what felt like mild. The paneer itself felt rubbery and not of good quality.
Lastly, I spotted not one, but two cockroaches while eating. This was shocking and extremely disappointing and forced me to leave a bad review here. The food can be overlooked to a certain extent but multiple cockroaches in the dining area was truly disappointing.

We always enjoy Shalimar. We had a group of seven and went at 5:30 during the week. We were able to be seated and served quickly and the food was amazing as usual.
