The food at Shalimar last night was excellent. Service was even better. Kurt is an excellent, experienced, friendly server. Always a good experience with Kurt at Shalimar.

The food was very good. Mutter Paneer flavorful (fresh peas would be preferable). The Vegetable Malai Kofta was also very good, although we prefer the iteration with cashews and raisins in it. Vegetable Pakora and Naan were excellent. Kurt, our waiter, is top notch. Professional, efficient, friendly. Our favorite Indian food restaurant in A2. We will be back soon after the great experience last night.

The service was very nice. The food very tasty. Had not been in years, but was glad to make a recent visit back.

This place just...isn't it (take it from an Indian). Their servers are fine, little standoffish at times, and they forgot stuff every so often. The naans are also just fine, but the curries are so lame. There's no depth of flavor, the curries are all somewhat the same, the lassi is trash. Someone needs to replace this place because this food is so bad. Go to madras masala, or if without car, namaste flavours.

Highly Overrated! Shalimar was a letdown. Given all the reviews here around the restaurant, the experience genuinely fell flat. The food was average at best and forgettable, but the real deal breaker was the service. The person acting as manager (not naming intentionally out of basic goodwill) was outright uneven and dismissive. He seemed more focused on closing up than taking care of guests. We were rushed, nudged to wrap up, and the whole interaction completely unprofessional. And turns out, if they sense a potential negative feedback, they mark visits as no shows, which conveniently removes the option to leave a feedback. That would explain how they manipulate the ratings to stay high, possibly with some fake positive reviews. I had to raise it up with OpenTable to get this going. I can second to all the negative reviews below sounding genuine given the consistency and similarity with my experience. Plus, for those it matters, they automatically add a 20% tip to your bill and don't mention it. The check still includes a tip calculator and prompts you to add more, so it's easy to double tip without realizing it. This was also mentioned by someone in an earlier review as well (buried under the promoted positive reviews). In this day and age, this system feels deliberately misleading and borderline scam. This by far isn't a true reflection of what a good Desi restaurant is. Do yourself and your guests a favor - Ann Arbor definitely has far better Indian/Pak cuisine restaurants!

Wonderful menu. We arrived for an early reservation for 6 and the staff were welcoming and very attentive. We selected a nice variety of vegetarian, curry and rice dishes as well as regular and stuffed naan. We enjoyed it all. Favorite appetizer was the Samosa Chaat...yum! Chicken Vindaloo was our favorite main.

Opentable Diner

Our go to restaurant in downtown for many years! Reasonably priced, great food, quick service, lovely outdoor dining during the summer where you can take in a beautiful Michigan evening and experience the best of downtown Ann Arbor.

Food wasn't great, it didn't taste of much at all - the best part was the bread. The food was very slow to come out, but the server was very nice

Great location and good Indian food choices. Lassi was very good, and sweet. Matched very nicely with the meal. Service was excellent, even though the restaurant was nearly full, the service was very much on the ball.

I’m so deeply bummed. I had a reservation here for my birthday dinner, and I was really looking forward to it. In the 90 minutes we spent in this restaurant, the only thing they brought us was soda (and only after we flagged the server down and asked about the sodas that we had ordered 30 minutes prior). I really wish I had gotten the opportunity to try the food. In the hour and a half we sat in this restaurant, they did not bring us a single food item. Maybe the worst dining experience I’ve ever had.

We had a 7:45 reservation. It took them about half an hour to get us our waters. We didn’t get the *canned beverages* we ordered until 9:00, and only because we flagged someone down. Let me tell you, it’s frustrating to watch 3 servers clean a table when you don’t even have a drink yet. We left at 9:15, an hour and a half after we arrived, when we were told the food had “15 minutes” to go. (I was only told this when I directly approached waitstaff, since it seemed like they were damn near avoiding us.) I’m extremely disappointed and I won’t be returning.

The food was pretty good. The service was not. At all. They didn't take our order for over an hour. We ordered appetizers, which took a solid 45 minutes to come out, and weren't able to order our meal intro after the appetizers had been cleared. And then it still took 45 minus for that food to come out.
If this was an hour and a half meal, it would have been great. At three hours it was fine.

While we enjoyed the food, I can't say that we'd ever go back after the abysmal service. Our dinner for seven took several hours. Our drink and appetizer order wasn't taken for over half an hour after we were seated, and those items didn't arrive until an hour after we'd been seated. I like that they left a pitcher of water on the table, but they didn't refill it until we asked multiple times, and we only had six glasses for seven people and never got another despite asking repeatedly. Our food then took another hour to arrive, and that was after they brought us the wrong order, put it down, then took it away. The table next to ours became so frustrated by the poor service that they walked out. Further, there was no acknowledgment of the long wait and issues from the restaurant.
