Great food and service!
Absolutely the best Ketel One up with a twist martini in Ann Arbor. The sushi was also impeccable. We wandered in thinking it was the Raven's club and were happily surprised with where the universe sent us.
BEST sushi restaurant in all of michigan hands down. Imported straight from Japan and you can taste it. Our server, Jess, was an absolute delight gave informed answers to all of our questions. SUCH a gem to talk to and will definitely ask for her next time <3
1 of 1 place. Saved my life when I was choking on my water.
Great service and a warm, welcoming staff made for an enjoyable visit. The food was tasty and well-prepared, but the highlight was definitely the crème brûlée—perfectly creamy with a crisp caramelized top. A delicious way to end the meal!
Get the Christmas roll. You won't be disappointed. I've been waiting for a high quality sushi restaurant to open in Ann Arbor for years. If you love sashimi this is the best place in A2 to get it. Friendly servers. They are still working out their wine list (currently too limited and expensive for the options) - excited to see what they have to offer soon!
Today was my first time coming to Tabe… safe to say it will not be my last! The service was amazing; everyone I encountered was so sweet and welcoming. Normally I don’t get dessert, but the courses were so good I had to try their Strawberry Soft Cream Cake (which I would totally recommend trying). Although this place is fairly new, it seems very well organized and clean!
I did the premium omakase having been excited for the new restaurant. My experience fell far short of expectations.
I found the timing of service/dishes strange. When making my reservation, I had the option between 6 or 8pm. I was under the impression that my omakase would take roughly two hours. However, the first dish of miso soup (which certainly is batched prepped before service) came around the 35 minute mark. It was roughly another 15 minutes before the second dish came. That left an hour for another seven courses. Long story short, we didn't receive our final course until 8:15, and had to beg for our check to be able to leave by 8:30.
The omakase is the primary differentiator between Tabe and other sushi restaurants in the area. But there was very little interaction with the sushi chef. Seated at the end of the bar, he had to awkwardly lean between the other sushi chefs. I was told what the dish was, and I had to strain to hear over the ambient noise in the dining room.
I had expected more interaction or perhaps explanation of the ingredients and practices. I didn't even know about origin of their fish until reading other reviews here. The omakase chef gave a short explanation and demonstration of wasabi. That type of interaction was great. While I'm not means an arbiter of authentic omakase, I think management would do well to lean into that style of engagement. There was little that elevated the experience.
I thought the sashimi/sushi was solid. I got to watch the regular service sushi chefs prepare many dishes, and the presentation is far above average. I would've preferred just the quail egg yolk without the white on the oyster, but maybe that's just a personal preference. The Japanese cheesecake seemed overbaked or stale, but I've never had one before so maybe that's how it's supposed to be — not particularly good.
I think I will be back to checkout happy hour and/or for the sushi entrées. Again, I felt this was there strength and certainly happy to have new flavors downtown.
Gosh the omakase was an absolute rip off. $90 a person for food that was not fresh, and just poorly done. Much of the fish was tough, the courses were just uninspired (like just a tempura piece of fish?), and the cheesecake at the end tasted over a week old.
Took over 45 minutes before the food arrived, and the service was lackluster - limited explanation of anything being served, which was disappointing for a chef's menu. Weirdly we got approached by two people trying to sell us on another event mid-meal.
The best new restaurant in Ann Arbor. The food was amazing! Service was outstanding — friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

This place is still a little new, so I think they might still be working out some of the kinks in their service. However, the food was delicious, our server was spectacular, the environment was wonderful, and I would definitely go back again. It’s worth a try!
The food, service & ambiance were fantastic. The restroom ambiance was also nice - remodel from the previous restaurant. Our server (Ty) was very accommodating & answered all of our questions (we had several) with a smile. 😊. His response was “how could I say no to a mom on Mother’s Day?” WE WILL BE BACK!!!
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere and Jessica provided extraordinary service. Can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend the short ribs, pork belly, pad thai and crispy duck rolls.
Awesome service, food and atmosphere. Coming back soon. Best in Ann Arbor!
Had a fabulous birthday dinner here, everything from drinks to dessert was just delicious. I wouldn’t change a thing! Our wonderful server Jessica went above and beyond for us the entire night. I can’t wait to come back!
