This place was so refreshing after walking around in 95 degree weather. We ordered several vegetable rolls (the pickled radish roll is my favorite) and the Zaru Soba (without tempura). The waiter was able to confirm that the zaru soba is vegan but the tempura batter is made with egg, so we just had the noodles. We really enjoyed the food.
Multiple vegan options, and I haven’t had anything from this place I didn’t like! The staff is also very accommodating; if you tell them you’re vegan they’ll give you alternatives. I love the vegetarian bento box but make sure to ask for it to be made vegan since I think there’s like fish sauce or something in the regular one? Super filling and the cutest spot for a date/sit-down experience. The OMG roll and the yakisoba are also amazingggg
We choose the sushi sampler as appetizer and spicy Totoro udon soup. But the restaurant does need to get an alcohol license because Sapporo or Kirin would've been lovely with the food.
Parking: After 6pm is free parking in downtown A2 (Mon through Sat), Sundays and holidays free.
Kid-friendliness: Depending on whether your kids like the food, but the restaurant had many kids eating there.
Wheelchair accessibility: Ground floor, easy to roll wheelchairs.

Bento boxes are super filling and so delicious. Love being able to eat a lot of different small side dishes- the croquettes, tempura, and edamame sides were all delicious. The tonkatsu really hits the spot. Sushi is also very fresh!

As a UoM student Totoro has been one of my goto Japanese restaurants in Ann Arbor. But I will never come back because of a recent experience and the *terrible* service we received. The server first seated me and my gf to a small table which barely even had space for us to sit in and put our stuff. Whereas we noticed that the server had been seating multiple parties of twos who looked White to the side of the room with spacious tables with four seats, while seating multiple Asian parties of twos to small tables back to back on the other side of the room. We weren’t comfortable with the pattern and felt disrespected because of the stereotype that we are Asian, Asian people are more “stingy” with tips therefore only deserve to sit on smaller tables even though there are so many open spaces on the other side of the room. Thus we left a minimum tip and when we were about to leave, the server pretend to collect the plates but actually to check the amount of tip we left. (Note that she did not check the prestigious customers sitting at the spacious tables’ tip amount before they left.) She tried to “mansplain” to us that *in the US* you have to give at least 15% tip, or you are not allowed to come back again. It’s such a frustrating experience. Please have more respect for your customers. Even though we are Asian we know how things work in the US without you telling us. Tips should be earned, not seen as entitled.

Good service but the food tasted fishy and the gluten free options were really lacking. The options were either tiny appetizers or spending $32+. I had also hoped they would offer substitutions but they did not.
I don’t know if they have changed owner but the food tasted different. We got salmon on the beach and two other dishes and they were overall underwhelming. They have an interesting take on salmon on the beach, where the salmon is completely cooked and layered on top of the sushi. We didn’t like it but it doesn’t taste bad.
Good sushi rice. Good noodles. Convenient to the hospital. Solid 4.5.
Parking: If you are just picking up. There are a handful of 15 minute spots in front and directly across the street

Great food, beautifully presented. However, I have a shrimp allergy and they would not substitute scallops in their tempura combo, even with an up charge. Service was also slow, but really they did their best with too little staff.
Dietary restrictions: They were unwilling to substitute ingredients to satisfy dietary restrictions.

Nice food, but I felt rushed to finish the meal because of the pressure from their service.

Best value sushi you’ll find in downtown Ann Arbor. The restaurant itself is a little cramped for space but there’s still plentiful seating. The prices for their food items are all fair and honestly the best value you’re going to get downtown.
They have good sushi options, dinner options and a solid lunch menu as well.
