My favorite winery in the area! Beautiful venue and grounds. Wine was excellent and staff was helpful with their recommendations.
First visit and we'll be back. It's a bit off the beaten path but well worth the drive. The lady that took care of us knows their wines and zeroed in to my taste preference's quickly making some suggestions. Red wines from Michigan always seem to be a tad bit lacking in my opinion. Well, Free Run Cellars just blew my opinion out of the water. I did a flight of reds not expecting much and tried the Lemberger, Sangiovese Reserve and Meritage. All three were excellent but the Lemberger and Sangiovese Reserve were outstanding and would easily rate at a 92 to 93. I'd put these two up against reds from anywhere. I've been to wineries in France, Italy and all over the USA. If you're in to visiting wineries, I strongly recommend visiting Free Run Cellars and sampling their wines.
One of my favorite wineries! Beautiful and peaceful, love sitting outside and just enjoying the view. Also enjoy the tastings! Staff is always very friendly! Always look forward to stopping by when we are in the area😊.
Nice place and scenery
I enjoyed a wine tasting at Free Run one afternoon. The patio was very comfortable and shaded, and the interior looked nice too. A friendly dog greeted me when I came in, so that was fun. The wines I tried were excellent, and I thought the two reds I sampled were delicious and complex. Those two reds were the Lemberger and the Meritage. The Lemberger had to be my favorite with lots of black fruit flavors along with some smoky and leathery notes. I’d definitely recommend Free Run if you’re in the area and looking for maybe a slightly more low key option.
Great atmosphere, good location, nice staff. My wife ordered the dry white and red flights. I was a bit shocked when I learned it was $6 per tasting when paying the bill. We only liked the last of the reds, a meritage. The rest seemed close to being ready but bottled early.
I was in a couple Sundays ago and Kim and Emily were super helpful in finding me some wines for a couple friends. They were very knowledgeable about the wines and gave me great recommendations. These girls know their stuff!
We really enjoyed our time here on an early December Saturday. Emily was our outstanding sommelier and each of us (we were 2 couples) were able to find a wine that suited our taste. We shall return!
A peace and serene atmosphere with feeat wine and Emily is the best hostess !
Free run specializes in small batch (mostly) dry wines & residual sugars only reach 5%. A sommeliers paradise with a relaxing view while servers provide an easy interactive experience. There are not only great wines, but hand crafted cocktails, pale ales, and hors d’oeuvres. This winery is Round barn’s hidden gem, so don’t miss your opportunity to see what Free Run has to offer.

I am very late in posting my review, however, it’s still valid. We arrived at free run with a group of 10 adults (ranging in our 30s-50s). We did arrive on a bus as we were all traveling from IN and wanted to travel together. We were NOT a rowdy group. Additionally, we were unaware the cellar does not like or accept large groups. After talking to the bartender, we explained we were not aware of the group limit and if we could still be served. They agreed as there were literally 2 other couples in the winery. We sat outside, near no other guests. The waitress and bartenders completely ignored us. We went up to the bar to order, however, the bartender continued to tell us the waitress will take our order at the table. But NO one came to take our order. After waiting 30+ minutes, we decided to leave. We were a little larger group, but we were by no means disrespectful, loud or disruptive. I understand and respect the environment they wanted, however, as a reminder there was no other patrons in the winery at that moment. Completely horrible service on their part. If they didn’t want to serve us, they should have stated as such when we walked in and no ignore us. Very ignorant and I will not be returning…..
Gorgeous property. Amazing staff. The wine is not very good. Lacking bouquet...very vinegary...not a nice finish. Needed more time to age. Woman working was simply amazing and we appreciated her trying to accommodate my taste. The white blend and their "best" red was ok at best. Back to the drawing board.
Such a cool vibe! Recommend the black bean jalapeño humus!
Not good if you have a group over 6 (as in our family of 10). We were told they couldn’t take us and to move on.
