I never wrote a restaurant review, this is the first one, as the experience was extremely bad. Diners be aware, you could not complain about the food, as the manager would come to you with an intimidating tone, claiming “ what is wrong with the food, I think the food is prepared perfectly by our chef!” I mean, seriously? What a low/no standard the restaurant has when it comes to “ perfect!” Did you try the dish I ordered? How could you say that!
I ordered the seafood trio, however the food came sloppy looking, like someone randomly threw leftovers in the bowl. I instantly lost appetite by merely looking at the dish. The dish also was supposed to come with 3 jumbo scallops, however only two scallops were in it. Regardless of all the facts, the manager insisted the food was “perfect”, telling us “if you don’t like the food, you can order another dish, but you have to pay both, no return accepted”. So rude, me and my friends were shocked with the manager’s attitude and tone. The restaurant ended up just throw one missing scallop into the bowl, and kinda forced us to accept the dish.
Maybe this restaurant had too many complaints, so it hired the manager to handle its customers this way? Not sure.
One more thing, every entry on the menu is a la cart, even for pasta, you don’t get a pasta dish with pasta unless you pay extra for pasta, so weird.
Downtown Birmingham has many food choices, avoid this one.

Not recommended to anyone who wants to have great dinning experience.
We ordered two dishes of mixed 3 kinds seafood, one dish came with two scallops not three. We flipped all the food and tried to find that scallop, but NO luck. We asked waitress to replace it by another dish. She didn’t say anything about that.
One minute later, the owner came to us and said the chef made your dish perfectly why did you want to change to another one? We need to charge you both dishes if you want another one.
I am not sure the owner’s “perfect” dish means missing key stuff for your customer.
Finally, we agreed to let them added one more scallop. And the owner run to the kitchen to cancel the another dish.
From the start to the end I didn’t see any respect to your customer.
Lack experience waitress and cheap owner combination.
We will never go there again and will warn my friends to avoid this place.

I must admit it takes a lot for me to review a Italian restaurant since I'm all Italian.
Salvatore scallopini in Birmingham, was on the mark with great Italian dishes.
The food was wonderful. Excellent flavor.
The server , Carter gave us excellent service. Very attentive and friendly.
I was also very impressed that the owner came over to our table to ask us how our dining experience was going.
I would recommend this this restaurant to all.

I recently visited Sal’s in Birmingham and unfortunately the experience fell short of expectations. The food itself was bland and felt very mediocre, with little care put into preparation. What was more disappointing was the lack of attentiveness from both the kitchen and the staff. When I voiced concerns, the waitress and team seemed uninterested in addressing them, which made the experience even more frustrating.

Birmingham has plenty of restaurants that pride themselves on quality and service, but Sal’s did not deliver on either during my visit. I left feeling overlooked and unsatisfied, which is not what you’d hope for when dining out.

This place I hold closely to my heart, as I have come here with my family since I was a small child/before I am even able to remember! Their eggplant parmasean, gnocchi, and Alfredo sauce are some of my favorite things here. Not to mention the GREATEST minestrone soup you will ever have. They serve fresh bread throughout the day and in the evenings they serve the bread with a dish of marinara sauce that just makes everything perfect. One of my favorite places to eat through and through. They changed to an A-la-carte menu for a while and changed the name to “salvatores” and to be honest I steered clear of here for a while during that tricky time. But since then, they have reverted to the classic/long time loved style they originally+have always been loved for! Thankful for this restaurant! Truly one of the best in Bham, hands down. Very consistent, the wait staff is extremely kind + hospitable. Salvatore Scallopini for LIFE! Will upload pics upon next meal here.

The food was really good. Had the Caesar salad and the Tosca. Both were really good. Will definitely come back. Good place for a special occasion.

Went on a friday night was super busy. Waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Atmosphere is dark in the main dining room. Ordered a chicken marsala and it was just average. Came with a side pasta. Tomato basil soup had flavor and was good. Service was a little lack luster but it was busy so I don't hold it against them. Would I return probably not

Quaint, warm, intimate, cozy. Especially nice with Christmas decorations. Food and service are first-rate. Greg our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and perfectly attentive. This might just become our new place.
