Service was excellent! They accommodated our large group of eight people.

Food was great but coffee needed to be a little hotter and fresher.

I really want to like this place, but they make it too hard. Usually, I love delicatessens, small places that serve breakfast all day, and places with a little character. Zalman's should fit the bill, but it is a miss. Spotty service, bland food, and indifferent staff spoil what should be a fun place. The staff was polite if not welcoming. I dried our table as we waited for a server. While my $16 omelet had a nice shape, it was tasteless, small, and overcooked....but there was no one who asked how the food was. Breakfast for two was $50 with tip and took about 45 minutes (which seemed long to me). Some nice touches, cloth napkins and premium take-home boxes, and an in-house bake shop, don't compensate for the general indifference.

I do really enjoy Zalman's the offer options of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. The ambience is great to have a chat. Fresh food à la carte options also.

Interesting place. It serves as both a hotel restaurant and as an independent establishment. You can enter either way. Once inside, it's a diner with all the classics.

Portions are quite generous, waitstaff is nice and efficient and their coffee is excellent!

So why not give them 5 stars? They are quite pricey! Breakfast was typically $25 per person. Ouch.

Opentable Diner

Open table confirmed a reservation at Zalmans, Bloomfield Hills Michigan. 11:15 March 23. Open Table required a credit card to hold the reservation for 15 minutes, which I reluctantly supplied. When I arrived at the restaurant they advised: 1) I had no reservation, Zalmans does not accept reservations. 2) zalmans advised they had no relationship etc with Open Table. How do you explain this?

Our waiter needed training. He never asked what drinks we wanted and eventually we had to ask for coffee. I could tell he was somewhat frustrated when we asked to have individual checks since he assumed we were paying all together. He also complained he could not take all our credit cards away at once and made 3 trips to run each card. Food was good, wish the avocado toast came with two eggs. Was surprised there was no cane sugar at the table with the pricing of the menu.
