We stayed here in late September. We asked for handicap room due to some issues I was having. The queen beds appeared to not fit the frame. The bed I had was not even on a metal frame but some sort of hand made wood structure. The mattress kept moving off the frame. There was no shampoo and our room was not made up for our second night stay. I was told we needed to request it but not sure where that was written. The hallway was not swept the days we were there. Very disappointed and will not stay here again.

The Hubby and I were excited to stay here for a wedding we were attending in August. With the history of this place we thought it was going to be amazing. But was very disappointed. The staff did let us check in a little early so we can drop our baggage off before heading to the wedding. First impression of our room was if it was even done being decorated. We noticed it seemed very stuffy and echo sounding. Walked in, no pictures on the walls to make it feel at all comforting. Looked out the window and saw our view was of the indoor pool, but was going to try and make the best of it and had to hurry off. Came back after the wedding and noticed the bed looked a lot like a pullout couch bed. The mattress was very thin and you could feel the bars underneath. We were spending $194.00 for this room. We spent maybe an hour total here and decided to leave. We asked few of the other wedding guest that were also staying and they all said the same. It was very disappointing. But they did reimburse us in full.

Went with a group of friends Friday 10/4 to celebrate birthdays. We sat in the pub which wasn’t very busy. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks. They were sitting in the window ready to be delivered. The waitress forgot one drink which took another 10 minutes to get. The positive….food was good. We ordered another round of drinks and the waitress was pulling the drinks off the tray and dropped two drinks all over one of my friends. He was soaking wet. Plus the beer was all over his and my plate. The waitress then said “no more drinks for you”. At time didn’t understand what she meant by the comment. She grabbed napkins and the manager came over with a towel. I understand the accidents happen but at no point did the waitress or the manger ever say they were sorry for want happened. It would have been nice to apologize and maybe even offer to compensate his meal and drinks. As we were leaving I approached the manger and explained our how disappointed we were that neither him or the waitress even had the common courtesy to apologize. He said the waitress told him that I elbowed her and that’s why she dropped the drinks. I was a couple feet away from her and would have to stand up to hit her tray. So instead of asking the guests he automatically believed what she said. The manager finally apologized but only after we said something to him. He also said that there was nothing he could do now it already happened.

The historical part of the hotel does not have rooms in use for guests. You end up in a seedy, 60ish addendum. View was the pool rooftop, too bad you can't see the town. Scary elevator, needs WD-40. The food in the restaurant is OK, but nothing special. Sitting at the bar, for evening cocktails, is the best part. Excellent, knowledgeable bar tenders, decent old vib.

Cool old building, 2 things I didn't like was no AC in the building just your room and no coffee pot in your room.

We only ate at the restaurant and did not stay at the hotel.
The hotel is a historical landmark in the town of Clare and we went because one of us went there once every summer as a child.
If you’re looking for Americana “meat-n-potatoes” type fare then you’re in the right place. Everything was clean and seems to have had some decor updates in the recent past.
The pot roast was tasty and the bread that contained the lamb stew was good, as was the orange sorbet. The calamari was tasteless and appeared to be served with a “canned” marinara type of sauce. That said, it’s doubtful we will return.
