We got the pork Cuban on gluten free bun (which always tend to be dry, iykyk) and despite the aioli and tender meat .. it felt drier than I’d like but flavor was great as were the truffle fries. Great vibe for dine in. Located next to Bon Bon and Carhartt and 2 cute local gift shops … we spent a while in the area unexpectedly!

Love Avalon! I love the community presence, massive bakery selection, delicious sandwiches and warming coffee. The big space helps interact with people and make new friends. This is my idea of a community space.

Food from Avalon is pretty disappointing. I got the huevos rancheros and felt like such a waste of money. There’s barely any flavor at all. Have these people ever tried an authentic one before? It’s kind of a disgrace. It was pretty much what tasted like canned black beans, over-done fried eggs, and dollop of flavorless avocado mash on top of a packet of nacho chips. A little feta and onions sprinkled over which didn’t help too much. I had to drown the thing in hot sauce for any flavor. Pretty worthless TBH and easy to make a better version at home for 1/4 of the price. Can’t comment on other stuff, but if it’s like this dish I’d def skip.

Good gods…this food is MAGNIFICENT! My nachos were nothing short of a religious experience, with the freshest guacamole, well-toasted chips and just enough chicken to let me keep my meat-free vows to Odin.

Wifey’s mac n’ cheese was not of this earth! The truffles were almost supernatural! Even my finicky wife thought it was good, which probably qualifies as some sort of miracle in Norse mythology.

We started lunch with a latte and matcha latte, which both tasted superb [Careful with the matcha latte: it’s REALLY hot!].

The folks there did a nice job of taking care of us. The service model is a bit unique, but I can’t argue with their success.

Overall, this store and surrounding area is a real testament to Detroit’s resurgence. Avalon is a great reason to be DETROIT PROUD!

Addendum: the bearded angels sang as I devoured the remnants of my nachos at home. If the Viking explorers had munched on these before their voyage to the new world, we'd be speaking Swedish instead of English.

I had a breakfast for about 40 people on Sunday morning, 6/15/25, at Avalon/Jolly Pumpkin and it couldn't have gone better. The easy, low key, fun atmosphere was exactly what I hoped for and we lucked out with the weather because the outside area is also great. I ordered breakfast sandwiches, pastries, mixed greens and drinks from the catering menu and all were delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Even the mixed greens were extra good - made with a little spicy kick in the dressing. The general manager, Jason, worked with me on the planning. He was very helpful and accommodating. On the day of the event, Robert took care of everything and was friendly, kind, helpful and competent. This was true of the rest of the staff as well. I highly recommend them for an event, or just for everyday eating! Thank you!

Got a vanilla coffee - loved the flavor! Tasted like vanilla bean paste was added instead of just vanilla syrup. Breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich was tasty but not enough of it. 2 small pieces of bacon with a large bun - all I felt I ate was bread. Loved the inside and atmosphere and would go back.

I highly do not recommend this place when I came here. They hardly had anything on the menu. The prices are too high and the food is overrated. I’m gonna give this a thumbs down.

Good came out fast and was good. Drinks took 3 reminders before they came out.

Sandwiches are decent, breakfast baked goods not so much. Toasted bagel with cream cheese came out as a stale bagel doused in melted butter with a small side of cream cheese. Not sure if the butter was an attempt to hide the staleness but it definitely was not what I ordered.

When you order a breakfast sandwich on a gluten free bun this establishment will service you that sandwich in regular bread. Eat here at your own peril.

The food knocked my socks off. The staff was laid back and pleasant and engaging. The spot is as trendy as ya expect for this part of town. 100% recommend!

Once a neighborhood haven, now a tiny corner in a brewery with a fraction of the selection. Miss the regular staff too.

Overpriced, unprofessionally dressed employees and the worst chai I’ve ever had in my life and it’s not even remotely close

Josh is amazing! My client hosted a retreat at the Hotel St. Regis in Detroit and locating breakfast options wasn't the easiest when trying to meet their breakfast start time of 8 a.m.

We called Avalon to see if they could make some magic happen when they opened at 7am and Josh did just that! We had to pivot from our previous breakfast choice and weren't sure if we'd be successful. He answered the phone and said ask for me in the morning, I'll be here and we'll take care of you. That brought comfort and relief!

We met our deadline and meeting attendees used the words "delicious" and "oooh this is good" at least four times that morning. I think it's important to share reviews of great customer service, especially because the hospitality industry unfortunately gets slammed a lot. That morning, you all ROCKED!
