They overcharged me by $5 for what was already an overpriced $10 box of little dry cookies

Great chicken patty breakfast sausage served up by the most pleasant staff.

Cool spot.Won’t make a box of coffee order with more than an hour notice (required 24 hours?)Wanted to buy coffee for my staff and now I have to go to a corporate place.

Very large space but not quite conducive for a coffee shop. There aren't many outlets for patrons and due to it being a brewery/coffee shop hybrid, it doesn't hold that quieter atmosphere. As far as food and drink goes, the bakery items are never a miss. I do wish the chai was more flavorful!

This place is always busy for a reason- good atmosphere, friendly staff, spacious interior, delicious food and drinks! Coffee and tea/chai selection is good! pastries are tasty . There is a bar with stools and a large seating area with lots of tables. Wooden interior looks really cool. Avalon is only open till 3 pm, so it’s closing kinda early. Wish it was open longer! Will be coming back and check their other locations too

The guy with the long hair was awesomeI Bought a sandwich for work from the refrigerator at the counter this morning my bread was hard and the young lady said they couldn't give me extra Chipotle mayo on the side because after they make sandwiches they don't have extra to give out which was a bummerThe breakfast sandwich and tea was delicious thoughWill I get breakfast again yes as far as lunch no

Nothing like the glory days of this Bakery on Willis. Carrot cake dry. No granola bars. No soy milk. No grab and go sandwiches. Was such a disappointment.Location sucks, they are in the back corner of a brewery.

I chose this place based on nytimes 36 hrs in Detroit article but service was rude, menu board did not explain that avocado toast had eggs, my sister’s eggs were runny above soggy toast and coffee ordered was not provided. Do not recommend at all. Try cannelle nearby instead

Coffee here is decent and consistent and staff is always very friendly. The $10 breakfast sandwich is absolutely ridiculous. To spend that much on a tiny little sandwich with only two strips of bacon just wasnt worth it. Nothing special about the sandwich, it was just a standard (small bacon egg n cheese). They’re also charging $15 for the same exact sandwich but a slice of avocado added. Who is paying these prices??

Good: Staff is super friendly, local business, fantastic seating (definite upgrade from Willis location)Bad: $10+ for a bacon egg and cheese the size of my palm is… interesting. I can understand using local, artistan ingredients for a premium price, but this is starting to feel more and more like a rip-off. Sorry to be blunt, but as a local resident (and former frequent visitor of Avalon), mgmt should know these prices are driving people away and taking away tips from their workers. The food/drinks/cofeee (which is good!) is no longer worth these prices. You only need to scroll down a few posts or talk to the community to see if people agree.Edit: would be great for Avalon to address the concerns I placed above in their reponse back (or tell me why I’m wrong, so I can change the review after proper info). I appreciate you guys too, but that’s not the feedback I’m looking for.

Pretty good bakery, a tad overpriced. When ordering food, you get a number to carry to your seat and the meal is delivered straight to you. Breakfast sandwich had floppy bacon, not preferable, but alright. Shares its space with the Jolly Pumpkin, so there is more than enough seating for couples and groups. Enjoyed the playlist quite a bit while dining in.

This review concerns the bread only. The service has been terrific. I came to Avalon, which specializes in making bread, to purchase a loaf of bread. It really wasn’t all that. I mean, it tasted like pre-packaged, shelf stable grocery store bread. It was not at all what I thought Avalon would be, given it’s marketing and presence in the city. I will either have to go to Whole Foods or mosey over somewhere out of town for good bread. Still missing Ochre.

Keep in mind that this Avalon Bakery on Canfield has a smaller menu compared to the Downtown Detroit location. So there are not as many options. But the overall vibe and atmosphere is very nice and having outside seating options is very nice. The food is also really good. My friend and I got the Fried egg, bacon, and avocado sandwich($14.50) and a sea salt chocolate chip cookie. For Wayne State Students, on Wednesdays it’s 20% off.
