However, the next morning I checked my bank statement and noticed I was charged twice. I’m not sure how that happened, but it was disappointing to see. I hope the restaurant can resolve this issue quickly.

The ambience at this restaurant was very nice — warm lighting, comfortable seating, and an overall upscale feel that sets the expectation for a quality dining experience.
Unfortunately, the service and execution did not match the atmosphere.
I ordered the $65 filet very well done. I specifically asked the server to leave it on the grill for an additional 10 minutes — even joking that I wanted it cooked “like a hockey puck.” I simply do not enjoy any red in my steak.
When the steak arrived, it was medium well, not what I ordered.
I politely addressed this with our server. Her response was dismissive: she said she told the kitchen to make it like a hockey puck and then walked away without offering a solution or follow-up. That level of indifference was disappointing, especially at this price point.
To make matters worse, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. My $65 steak ended up costing nearly $80, despite the incorrect preparation and lack of service recovery.
Detroit has too many outstanding dining options to justify premium pricing paired with poor service and failure to deliver what was ordered. Sadly, this experience did not live up to the restaurant’s otherwise pleasant ambience.

Our food and service was phenomenal! Besa is located in the heart of downtown. Our server was personable and knowledgeable. We ordered the pulled lamb shoulder and tiropita for appetizers, both were fantastic. For entrees we ordered the lamb chops, scallops, and branzino, all were superb. For dessert we shared the delicious bread pudding. They have an extensive wine list, as well as whiskeys. The ambiance with a view of downtown made it an amazing night with friends. This was our first time here and we will be back!

Alex the bartender was AMAZING—friendly, knowledgeable, and made some of the best drinks we’ve had in the city. You can tell she truly cares about her craft and the guest experience.
Daniele, the manager, was equally impressive. Professional, attentive, and clearly running a tight ship while still making everyone feel welcome. It’s rare to see management so dialed in and genuinely present.
To top it off, the owner was incredibly kind and personable, which says a lot about the culture of this place. When leadership cares, it shows—and Besa Detroit is a perfect example of that.
Outstanding service, great vibes, and an overall unforgettable experience. We’ll absolutely be back.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Besa for our first time trying this restaurant. We celebrated my birthday and our service from Clair was fantastic. She made me feel like a queen and her engagement with us was enjoyable as she explained in detail the menu items and even the different drinks we were ordering. She was knowledgeable, so friendly and spot on with her hospitality. All the staff was so engaging and allowed us to take pictures in some specially areas. We even learned about the awesome history of the building. Would highly recommend Besa!
