Bread Basket Deli Downtown Detroit

I am reluctant to leave a review because I was very disappointed. I was pretty surprised that my order came to over $40 for fried mushrooms, a sandwich and peach cobbler, with baklava to take home. The large chicken salad sandwich was $20 with an additional charge for grilled bread. It was three pieces of thin white bread with very plain chicken salad, lettuce, tomato and bacon. The chicken salad had no celery, no cranberries, nothing but chicken chopped up in mayo. It did have good flavor, but absolutely not a $20 sandwich. The mushrooms were good, although a little bit soggy. The peach cobbler was not what I expected. It had no cinnamon or nutmeg, no granola or oats, and based on the pieces of crust in it, I think it was a mashed up piece of peach pie. The staff was great, she suggested the sandwich which as I said was delicious, it was not what I expected and I certainly would not have ordered it if I'd have realized it was going to cost $20 by itself.

Food is great i had a large b b salad that's corned , beef smoked turkey with two eggs , salad greens , slices of tomatoes and swiss cheese and ranch dressing plus corned , beef on rye , with swift cheese and mustard

WOW. I really liked the corned beef reuben sandwich. Hot, great bread with real Swiss cheese and tasty corned beef. It came with 2 spears of pickles and I ordered a side of 1000 island which was tasty too. The sandwich was very big I ate half and took the other half home.

This is the third and last time I buy corned beef from them. My order is simple one pound lean corned beef. Why did I get home and it was full of fat. $25 a pound is ridiculous anyway and it’s not enjoyable. Never again I’m so done.

My sandwich was amazing. It reminded me of my childhood. I truly enjoyed having this sandwich after 20 years. So delicious and I ate every bite. The location is a bit weird because it shares space with a taco joint. But I was so excited when I smelled the corned beef and the service was excellent. Wish they could bring a bread basket to Reno Nevada. Thank you guys for helping me remember how delicious and amazing you all are.

I gotba pastrami and Corn beef sandwich and the sandwich was full of fat. I pay a 2 ounce extra meat and all was fat. I am so disappointed. I came all the way from Metro to downtown Detroit to get this sandwich and it was full of fat. That cook need to be fire trying to pass on some bull crap like this they need to refund me my money or make me a better sandwich. I can’t believe it because my son recommend this place. I’d rather eat at the one in Oak Park.

I been a Customer for years the food a service was always great but as of September 4th 2025, I ordered 2 Regular Corn beef sandwiches , which had nothing but fat hardly no meat. I couldn't even stomach the sandwich. The Bread Basket sold me $33.00 of Fat Bread and Mustard. VERY DISAPPOINTED. Will not be back

I grew up on Breadbasket and was so happy to see this one downtown. There's no ambiance but the Delious taste of the Cornbeef is there.
I didn't want a sandwich but I did get the Reuben Fries, delicious and filling.

First time there. Stood in a line for 15-20 min until attendant says oh this is the take out line if you need to place an order go to the other side and stand in line. Which I did for 30-40 minutes. Then when it’s my turn to order she says oh no. If you want corn beef you have to stand on the other line at opposite end. No signs no nothing. I just walked out. Obviously management is soft or not existent!

I ordered 3 sandwiches to be made the same with the exception of one them had pastrami on it. When my husband started eating his it had Russian dressing on it which was not an ingredient we added. Other than that everything was good.
