Overall Colombo's has really good food for a greasy spoon... aside of the bs move of not bothering to melt the cheese on your burger. Oh, a cold ass piece of processed American cheese on a burger. Yum! The fish on the fish and chips leaves something to be desired as well. The breakfasts here totally slay though. Duly's down the block prevented me from ever wandering into Colombo's until within the last year as Duly's has switched to this odd schedule of only being open all night every other weekend. I've only been in here once when Duly's was open and I could tell by the drop in business compared to a similar time on the previous weekend. Colombo's is very rough around the edges. There's spiderwebbed cracks in the glass on the outside door that don't look to be getting fixed anytime soon. Not all the lights above the booths work and the springs within the seats can be pretty wonky. And the staff... I usually get here before the big post bar rush and with one or two servers on I can tell it's basically impossible to provide decent service when the place fills up, which I do think it does, at least on Duly's off weekends. So the servers are used to people going up to the counter for stuff, and they'll lean on that even when it's slow. My last time in here I asked for a box which is basically a universal signal for the bill and the bussing of your plates to follow. Despite me being one of two tables in here this didn't happen. Hey, I guess my waitress had to conserve energy for the big rush. Way it goes around here. They'll give regulars the remote and let em find something streaming to watch on tv though. So the counter might be your best move. Now on to the cook who's usually there at night. What a piece of work he is. This is Southwest Detroit and he's of some sort of Latino ethnicity but he drops the n-bomb, you know the racial slur I'm talking about, incessantly. I used to be friends with a Mexican guy who grew up in the hood who talked like this. It was just the way he came up, with that word being a synonym for guy or dude, but one of these nights someone with more melanin in their skin than this cook is gonna come in here and not care about any of that. If this guy gets his ass kicked he has it coming cause I hear him use that word dozens and dozens of times. The last time I was in here I didn't see that cook. Halfway through my meal he walks in along with two customers. I can immediately tell he's completely hammered. I think he's in here on his off night to eat with his friends. Then he goes back in the kitchen. I think he's making himself at home, maybe grabbing a coffee or something. No - he goes to work drunk as a skunk, not even trying to be low key about it, talking about he drank too much earlier and overs and that's why he's late. My jaw was just hanging open, that's how obliterated he was. I'm glad the guy before him made my food. Somehow, though, he only dropped one n-bomb that night, but it was especially bad - a one word exclamation like he was saying Damn! or F*ck! and it was very loud. Duly's is much better than Colombo's and can also be entertaining- the employees might argue but they leave the drunkenness to the late night customers and don't use words that are verbal land mines given their ugly history. I wish they'd go back to 24 hours every weekend because I'm really over Colombo's at this point.

Do not come here or bring kids. They smoke in the restaurant. Portions are tiny and it's not worth the price. Extremely disappointed to waste my money on an establishment that doesn't respect their customers enough to smoke outside.

Was in the area and stopped in for a coffee and chili and I must say it was really good!

My visit to Colombos coney island left me impressed with their delectable breakfast offerings. The pancakes were fluffy and flavorful, perfectly complemented by a variety of topping options. The omelets were a standout – fluffy, well-cooked, and generously filled with fresh ingredients. The Greek fries were a delightful surprise, combining the classic crispiness with a savory Greek twist. The diner's cozy atmosphere and attentive staff added to the overall positive experience. If you're a breakfast enthusiast looking for delicious pancakes, omelets, and a unique twist on fries, this diner is a must-try.

Let's just say if you are not from the neighborhood or look like you are from the neighborhood don't expect good service, or in our case any service at all. We sat ourselves on a early afternoon that was not busy and sat for nearly 15 minutes without being acknowledged at all. Others came in and were promptly served. We left without any question from an employee. They ignored us and didn't seem to care that we left. With 30+ years in the restaurant business it takes a lot for me to leave a negative review (this is my first one ever) butI felt it worthy this time. I like the neighborhood and it's a shame that this business does not seem to care about people who are not from the neighborhood. Would not recommend and will not be back.

Honestly, my experience wasn't the best.My food took over an hour to make and the workers had attitudes and were rude to me. Lets not even TALK about the food..They tried to serve me burnt food and the atmosphere just was not my vibe.

We've been going here for over 20 years. I've never gotten anything I didn't like. Some of the waitresses have been there as long as we've been going and are so nice.
