Food was horrible!!!!! If your looking for good soul food this is not the place to go.. very disappointed
Really good food and very kind staff. Food is always made fresh and the desserts are varied and tasty.
I drove 45 minutes to try this restaurant and it was well worth it. I ordered fried pork chops, dressing and yams and it was delicious. The cake was also very good
First time trying the food.. The greens tasted canned the yams tasted canned.. black eyed peas didn’t have much flavor too much rice with it.. Soul food should be cooked fresh! Disappointing.
Working the Grand Prix, got BBQ dinner.Holy cow best greens I ever had..Can't find anything close to this ard clarkston waterford area.ill be back as often as I can. I'll be talking bout this place to all my frds
Detroit soul is possibly the best meal from start to finish I've had in years. Walking in you notice how delicious everything smells, how clean everything is and how friendly everyone who works here is. The food is top notch. The breadding on the catfish fritters made my mouth water, the greens made me want to write home, the mac and cheese was perfectly cooked and the meatloaf was so tender and tasty. Then the dessert! Peach cobbler that made me make obscene noises, the creamy vanilla scoop and the amazing red pop sorbet were bursting with flavorful perfection. I highly recommend going here and trying everything.
Yall need to get the Jefferson location on here too, so they can get they props! Cause it was…nearly transformative!! From the catfish fritters; to the Mac & Cheese; to the Collards; to the moist juicy flavorful Fried Chicken; to the peach cobbler 😋; to the Faygo Redpop sorbet; to the German. Chocolate. CAKE yall!! 😱🤤🙌🏼💀If I could give 5⭐️x5⭐️+5⭐️, I absolutely would. In a heartbeat. Yall DID that! Yall put BOTH ya foots in that now!!
I went to Detroit Soul today and enjoyed the food, the service was great! I plan to go back again.
Calling this food enjoyable would be tantamount to saying that Nas writes "some decent lyrics here and there" or saying that Stephen King has "okay books under his belt."
I had the pleasure of dining here with my family roughly one week ago. When I walked into the restaurant, I found myself enamored with atmosphere; the eatery was spotless, the food aroma made my mouth water, the host was pleasant. Even better, unlike most establishments nowadays, the music playing was at a low volume. I have some tinfoil hat conspiracy theories as to why a good number of restaurants play their music at ear-splitting volumes, but I digress.
Even the restrooms were clean. I don't criticize places for having unclean restrooms, since they are unable to monitor everything which goes on in there throughout their hours of operation. However, I do add praise if they are clean, and the facilities were so clean they could have given me a table right beside the urinals and I would have been content. The sole thing missing was an attendant to hand me towels and dishes full of candy.
The food was phenomenal. The host informed us they had shrimp (from what I understand, it isn't always available), and as a result, I ordered a shrimp dinner. Any dinner entrees also allow you to get two sides and a cornbread muffin; the sides I added were fries (basic, I know) and collard greens.
The fries were standard fries. I wasn't expecting much there, and they weren't bad at all. The cornbread muffin which came with the dinner was pretty good as well.
My mother, since she'd eaten at Detroit Soul prior, told me the collard greens were cooked with turkey and sweeter. I prefer my greens more on the spicy side, but nonetheless, I went in with an open mind. I was pleasantly surprised; the greens were melt-in-your-mouth tender and very flavorful. Sweet collard greens are something I'm getting used to, and I still can't quite say I prefer them over spicy greens, but I certainly wouldn't mind having more of Detroit Soul's collard greens. (I would say I'd get double greens next time, if I'm able.)
The shrimp was incredibly well-seasoned. I'm not sure what combination of seasonings they use for their batters, but it was divine. If you are able to get the shrimp, I recommend it highly. Next time, I'll try the catfish, which was what my sister ordered--that also looked tasty.
In short, I highly recommend Detroit Soul. Phenomenal food, great service, good prices, great atmosphere, and as an added bonus, it's located right off of one of the bus stops. I can certainly see myself coming back for lunch or dinner in the near future, and will likely tell others about the East Jefferson location as well.

First of all, I ordered a turkey wing dinner and baked chicken dinner all white. The sides were very small for the price. The flavor profile was really. Food with no soul as a chef I should have known better when I seen an empty dining room two hours before closing. The place was clean and nice looking food just was not on point to me. Can we please get some real soul food in a majority, African-American cities.

Food wasn't all that. Dressing tasted like cornbread with gravy no season no bell peppers horrible. Asked for certain kind of pork chops which waitress said they had and it wasn't what I asked for. Greens was sort of okay. I want be back
