Start to finish, service, ambience, food all impeccable. Cannot wait for the next time we dine.
Absolutely amazing food with incredible presentation. Staff was wonderful! We did the grand tasting, and we are glad we did!
A delicious meal and a wonderful ambiance. Enriching tasted very good and the service was wonderful.
An Unforgettable 15th Anniversary – Pure Magic at Freya! We chose Freya to celebrate our 15th anniversary, hoping for a nice dinner, but what we got was a memory we will cherish for the rest of our lives. The Service: From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, the team made us feel incredibly special. The warmth and kindness of the staff set the tone immediately—they even presented us with a card signed by every team member! It was such a thoughtful touch that went beyond standard service. The Food: Every single course was a journey. The dishes were not just delicious; they were works of art. The flavors were incredibly complex yet perfectly balanced. We loved that the team took the time to explain each dish, which helped us appreciate the intricacy of what we were eating. The Experience: You really have to surrender to the chef's vision here. There were moments where I literally had to close my eyes just to savor the bite and appreciate the hard work behind it. And the dessert? It takes the cake (pun intended). I actually had goosebumps eating it—I've never experienced anything like that before, and my wife felt exactly the same. I am honestly surprised this place doesn't have a Michelin star yet. The attention to detail and the culinary mastery are on another level. I am sure Freya will be Michigan's first! Thank you to the entire team for making our 15th anniversary beyond anything we expected.
Brought my husband here to celebrate his 30th birthday and it exceeded expectations! The whole experience from the food to the staff was phenomenal. We could not rave enough, and if we could give 10 stars we would!
We paired a night at Phantom of the Opera with Freya's 9 course tasting menu after seeing that it was in NYT's top 50 restaurants in 2022. I opted to do the wine pairing in addition to the 9 course menu and my wife did a cocktail. The highlight of the night was jointly the food and the staff. They took all the extra steps to acknowledge both my wife's birthday celebration and our plans/timing with the show to make sure the food was delivered at consistent intervals and got us out the door with the exact amount of time we needed to get to the theater. Each plate was unique and impressive, having us ask each other "wow, how did they do that?" multiple times throughout the evening. It was definitely a culinary experience "worth the trip" as the Michelin rating system says. The only feedback I'd offer to potential patrons would be to consider going for the cocktail option over the wine pairings. While it was great to try a variety of new wines and to see how the wine changed before, during, and after each dish, the amount of alcohol you consume over the entire experience can make it hard to enjoy and appreciate the food fully as the level of your buzz increases. Regardless, it didn't spoil the night by any means, but in hindsight I would have chosen differently. Thank you to the staff and the chef's for the experience.
The food was great and the service was even better! It was my husband's birthday and the staff gave him a card with all their names signed which was so thoughtful. My favorite dosh was the rabbit dumplings, the gravy it was in was so flavorful! They also accommodated to vegetarians as well as dietary restrictions very well!
As before, the food was excellent probably better than the last time we visited. The service was superb. It is good they have outstanding people to deliver their outstanding food. My only gripe is that the noise level in the room is too high. It is nice to feel a part of a busy scene, but it can be hard to hear the staff as they describe the plates they have just delivered or the beverages they have just poured. It is always pleasant to visit a place that remembers they are in the hospitality business. Few are as hospitable as Freya.
Really had a wonderful time. Dishes were brought out in a timely fashion and the staff were great. The food was as amazing as I'd read in various articles. Loved the experience. We don't get out much to this level of restaurant and this was a delight.
We did the 9 course prix fixe meal. Some dishes were incredible, specifically the 2 meat dishes and first dairy dish. The 2 fish dishes smelled and tasted fishy and were not fresh, they were hard to get through. The carrot dish was severely lacking. The tea and drink selection was very nice. It's a creative restaurant but was a big miss. For the price of this restaurant every dish should be good or great. The wait staff was very kind and accommodating but our drink order was not put in until we reminded them 10 minutes later that they forgot. There were only 3 other tables being occupied in the restaurant at the time. The automatic gratuity is 22%. We expected much more for the price compared to what other restaurants of the same level offer. The ambience was nice and relaxing and they have a great music/vinyl selection.

So first of all the wait staff and general atmosphere (except for the bassy audio system) was great, the meals were explained in detail and the staff was very friendly. Now the food, I saw a Google review said that this place was more about the experience than the food and I have to agree, each course was differently interesting and plated nicely but the flavors seemed odd, maybe a bit unseasoned, sometimes way to acidic weather it was vinegar or something else, and overall underwhelming. Even the 14 day dry aged steak while GOOD, was kinda disappointing compared to other fancy steaks ive had from prime steak house's. We did the 5 Course Experience, I brought with me 2 vegan family members, both vegan for different personal reasons, so we ended up trying allot of the vegan options while i was trying the dishes with cheese and meat. For 2nd course they had this BBQ smoked blue oyster mushroom dish, that had this wild vinegar spicy sting that was really unpleasant, and the smell of the dish after trying it was nauseating. Another of the vegan dishes for 3rd course was just a unseasoned bowl of beans and grains that while interesting in texture lacked flavor, my sister commented that the bean soups she makes at home are more flavorful. Best dish i had was the andouille sausage dish with crayfish in a little gumbo style sauce, and a very well seasoned garlic mashed potato side. Other than that it was very underwhelming. The vegan lasagna dish was received well by my family members but that was the only dish they somewhat enjoyed besides the desert. The desert was fine, we had a blood orange cake, 7.5/10 i guess. Also the wait time was ridiculous, were were there from 6:30 to 8:20 and it took them sometimes 15-30 minutes to ready the 1st, 2nd and 3rd courses. The bill with 3 people, (and 2 glasses of wine) came to 400$, the 22% gratuity is on the check and theres also an optional tip. For the price, i cannot recommend this place at all.
Wonderful experience. Extremely accommodating of allergies Thoughtful, knowledgeable service. Highly recommend
This was our second time eating at Freya and we opted for the 5 course and wine pairing . Similar to last time, the service and food and drink were absolutely stellar. They're extremely consistent with maintaining a high quality of customer service and a very well thought out wine and food pairing.
We will definitely be back!

No doubt in my mind… this will be Detroit’s first Michelin!!!!!
Absolutely AMAZING experience at Freya. Tucked away on an unassuming corner, Freya is the epitome of thoughtful, intentional dining. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with genuine warmth from the hosts, and the small touches, like staff opening your chairs, helped set the tone for the entire evening.
We had the pleasure of being served by Hailey and Joseph, two incredibly knowledgeable and passionate members of the team who made the experience that much better!!
The tasting menu was divine, and one detail I loved is that you don’t all have to choose the same dishes, which is rare for tasting menus and such a refreshing touch.
We opted for the wine pairing, and hats off to the sommelier. Every pour elevated the dishes in ways I didn’t expect; each pairing was SO spot-on.
To start, the crudité of pickled veggies and hummus was a bright opener alongside the tastiest bread.
Apps followed: a perfectly smoked duck ham with a delicate jam-filled crepe.
Then came the oyster mushroom, tossed in a smoked, BBQ-inspired sauce that was so thoughtfully spiced it barely tasted like a vegetable!!
The sausage course was seasoned to perfection, and the striploin made for a standout finish before dessert.
We ended with a rich chocolate course that closed the night beautifully.
Every course really arrived with beautiful, intentional presentation, you can tell the team cares just as much about the visual experience as the flavour. The chefs clearly poured so much intention and creativity into a menu that exceeds expectations.
Only small note: the bathrooms could use a bit more frequent attention, as the garbage did pile up at times, but truly, this was the only detail that fell short in an otherwise exceptional evening.
Freya is special, and absolutely worthy of the hype.
