A Complete Disaster – Valentine’s Day Ruined
If I could give zero stars, I would. We made Valentine’s Day reservations at Hammer and Nail, expecting a nice evening. Instead, we got a chaotic, disorganized mess.
We arrived on time—actually a few minutes early—and were seated right away. That was the last thing that went smoothly. We waited over 15 minutes before a server even acknowledged us, despite watching other tables get immediate attention. We ordered...read full review
Discovered this place while going to the symphony. What a nice start of a great evening!
Excellent cocktail bar. For the true appreciative liquor pallet. Or the beginner acquiring the the taste. Thank you for the experience.
Menu
Hammer & Nail is a nicely designed establishment with mid-century modern (MCM) decor, offering a quiet and potentially romantic atmosphere, especially on Friday evenings. Customers have celebrated birthdays with a chef's-choice sushi dinner, enjoying several dishes they hadn't tried before. The sushi boat, including the shrimp, has received positive comments, and there are also vegan sushi options available on the main menu and during happy hour. The quality of the sushi is outstanding, with some reviews noting it as the best they have had in a long time, particularly the Omakase meals prepared by Chef Shinya. While some aspects of the service could still be improved, such as the speed of order fulfillment, the service staff are described as super attentive and friendly. The restaurant's music selection, described as oldies, could benefit from a more fitting genre. Prices are reasonable for the quality offered, making it a great place for a casual night out. Drinks are well presented and executed, adding to the overall experience. Reservations might not be needed, and parking is available in the Plaza's rear lot on Woodward. The restaurant has been recognized as a hidden gem of Detroit, making it a great spot to visit before a show or to start or finish a night out.
