Aside from this being associated to The Siren Hotel, this spot is good. It's called the Ash Bar now. Lea the waitress is great - she was kind and accommodating. Food is okay but this spot makes you feel like you traveled back in time.

You wouldn't think a simple ham sandwich would be worth $12. You'd be wrong. Definitely get the slaw too! I WILL return!11/25/2023: a moment of silence please. I just leaned Karl's has closed. Well I guess COVID wasn't ALL great...

Karl's is a Detroit classic that is one of the most popular unknown places in the city. On the second floor of the Siren hotel, the food is some of the best value on downtown. The menu has a wide variety from great breakfast choices to excellent lunch and dinner. The service is typical Detroit, super friendly and attentive. I would recommend this as a great brunch choice if you want to meet friends, with family or a date.Big shout out to the entire team for pulling of a great restaurant.

Fabulous diner! My favorite place to eat inside my favorite hotel. This place has quick bites, larger bites, and a phenomenal drink. They are a hip version of the 60's to me. Im a total fan! Don't let the small menu fool you. Total gem

We were underwhelmed. The service was not great. The food was good but more of a lunch vibe then dinner. There were only 4 choices of wine. The decor was very cute but we’re Probably not returning.

We met up with some college friends while in Detroit for a wedding, and this was a solid breakfast/brunch place. The restaurant itself is located on the second floor of a hotel. Initially, the first floor of the hotel looks very vintage-esque, but the second floor immediately transforms into a diner area. It was quite packed when we were there, but were seated pretty quickly. We started our meal with coffee, which was pretty good. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I like it with brunch. For my meal, I got the tahini walnut chorizo. It was an interesting dish that I had never seen before, and was honestly quite good. I am a big fan of chorizo and cooked with walnuts and chickpeas, topped with tahini and arugula made it seem almost healthy. My partner got the red hot chicken with waffles, which was honestly really good. The chicken had a nice kick to it without being outwardly spicy and it was cooked so well. It was juicy and tender without a hint of dryness. If I came again, I would likely get this dish!

Good was EXCEPTIONAL. Shrimp & grits were to die for, best I’ve ever had. Very 50’s diner ambience. In the super cute Siren boutique hotel.

Incredible food: chicken and waffles, the soup specials, Mediterranean breakfast, best chicken salad ever - just to name a few and the cocktails (i get at least one lady martini each time i visit) are incredible too. Everything about this place makes me eager to return. If I didn't work in the industry or lived in the neighborhood, I'd be a regular.

We ordered takeout and everything was fantastic. The beef on weck was deliciously messy, and wow the horseradish sauce and bread were good. The grilled cheese and tomato soup had awesome favor, and the salt and pepper chips were so good that we couldn’t stop eating them. Great find!

Karl's is located within the charming Siren Hotel, up a dark, steep, and narrow flight of stairs. The restaurant décor is a mish-mash of 1950s diner (black and white flooring, formica tables, vinyl-covered chairs, and narrowed booths) accessorized with 1950s glam (dusty pink velvet chairs). At the front, there is a large Wurlitzer jukebox. Pennants, shirts, and other memorabilia of Detroit's sports teams are pinned to the walls. There is a large polished bar to one side and an open kitchen at the back. Perhaps it was the 80F weather, the first beautiful day of spring - on a Saturday, no less, or the ballgame at nearby Comerica Park. Whatever the reason, the streets were teeming with people and the restaurant was packed. My friend made a reservation so I was seated quickly. The brunch menu is rather limited and a few items were not available on the day of our visit. However, my only concern is whether the chocolate cake was available. I ordered the club sandwich (and patted myself on the back for not ordering the table pancakes - the carbs, the exorbitant price) while my friend had the chopped Maurice salad. I am a fan of the old-fashioned club sandwich. You know, the one with oven-baked turkey breast (not deli), thick strips of bacon, and three slices of sandwich bread. And of course, mayo. Here, they use Duke's, which is my preferred brand at home. Of course, the sandwich has to be cut into triangles and held together with toothpicks (or whatever the glam version is called). It was unbelievably good and served with thick, salt and pepper potato chips. My friend loved her chopped Maurice salad. So, was chocolate cake available? Yes, I had the last piece. I loved the rich, but not overly-sweet layered cake with a shiny chocolate ganache frosting. I also had a bite of my friend's dessert, a grilled, cinnamon-flavored bread pudding in a pool of condensed milk, topped with chopped pistachios. This was excellent, as well. Service was fine. The server was personable, checked in on us frequently, and worked efficiently.

Delicious pancakes for the table, liked the full Mediterranean breakfast but would suggest to change the sardine or leave it optional .Great atmosphere and service.

Excellent bar!We stopped here for after dinner drinks because it was a bit quieter, and we wanted to catch up with friends. The bartender was friendly, but didn't bother us, and they have a great selection of spirits. We were all a little jealous of the boozy milkshake (The Hummer) one of the guys got. Fantastic.

Had a great experience at Karl's recently - we went for Sunday brunch and enjoyed the Irish Breakfast, Mediterranean Breakfast and a stack of pancakes. Everything was delicious! I would order any of those items again. Our server was incredibly kind, and the food/drinks came out rather quickly.
