I am not a food critic. But I have the time while flying back home to reflect on dinner last night. The experience was so amazing that I had to leave a glowing review. I seldom take the time to do so.

Marrow is top shelf dining experience. My friends and I went all in with the food paring ($90) and drink paring ($45) options. Pricey but well worth it. 3 small but flavorful starters, a wonderful pear salad, a chorizo and gnocchi dish head of the main event… a 7oz flat iron steak cooked to perfection over a bed of lightly smoked and tender pinto beans finishing with a single scoop of chestnut ice cream. But that was just the food. The drinks were carefully paired with each course. 5 in total. Each one balanced bitterness, sweetness, and acid with each course. My mouth was alive as if it had been raised from the dead. It was so amazing that I forgot to mentally note each drink so I could describe them in the future.

This place is a diamond in the rough. I only wish I had met the chef and the team behind the incredible experience.

I am from Los Angeles and have plenty of great places to dine. My visit to Detroit to watch my friends compete in an indoor track bike race was punctuated be this celebratory dinner.

If you love incredible food with thoughtfully pared drinks, I cannot recommend Marrow enough.

We had a great first experience here! PJ was an amazing server and walked us through the chefs menu. Our pairings were great. Loved the Heritage Pork dish best (though the snacks were really great). All of the staff here were very welcoming and helped make the experience very enjoyable!

Pains me a little to write this review but as someone who's frequented Marrow for years it's been sad to witness its decline. Dishes here have always been a little spotty with some hits and some misses every time I've visited, but two things always kept me returning: Marrow's signature dish (roasted bone marrow) and the consistently friendly service. The last time I visited I was one of the first tables of the day. My waitress handed me the menus, asked if I had been to Marrow before (yes), and left me to peruse the menu. She returned a few minutes later and asked if I'd made up my mind. I recall thinking it was strange she didn't introduce any specials or the tasting menu which I had enjoyed the last time I visited, but gave her my order off the menu anyways thinking perhaps they weren't offering those options that day. It was only later when other tables were seated around me and I watched her animatedly rattle off specials of the day and tasting menu options and make small talk with the guests did I realize with surprise that her attitude was completely different with me-- maybe because I was dining alone? No matter, I shrugged it off as a honest mistake. I was still looking forward to my bone marrow dish. When the dish was brought out, I was once again met with surprise that instead of the usual full bone (two halves), there was only half a bone on the plate. I checked the menu again to make sure there was no mistake-- sure enough, same price as when I visited a few months ago, but the portion size had decreased by half! I understand everything is getting more expensive but a 200% increase in price over the span of a few months feels excessive. The rest of my meal was lackluster-- drink was ok, the rabbit pierogi was a big miss (stringy + over salted). My waitress did stop by to check in once or twice and was extremely expedient in handing me the check (lol) but I think it's fair to say that after this last visit I no longer have a reason to return to Marrow.

One of the highlights of my Detroit trip. Felt incredibly healthy with this steak kimchi salad. We also got a side of fries and I appreciate the pickle spear they added in. Super fresh and flavorful. Wish I could have had some bone marrow as the name implies - would have loved to take advantage of their butcher options.

I went to community food pantry, I seen two sandwiches I can’t tell you how much they cost , however I felt so lucky to eat a delicious, quality meat , someone left them for us we are grateful.

We were a large group needing 2 high chairs and showed up for lunch. Lunch is normally served only at the bar. They quickly put a table together for us. Service and food were excellent. We purchased meat to cook at home that night (amazing)! Also purchased tallow lotion. Love this place! Order the tomato sandwich...I'm still thinking about it.

To go order took sooooo long way too long and it wasn’t even that busy. It was just a smash burger and chips not even fries. Not to mention a $24 smash burger for lunch. Standing room only which was super inconvenient I’m pretty sure with the sky high prices this place can afford a couple tall stools or even a bench right outside the door for people waiting on to go orders since the restaurant area was closed during lunch. Smh. Costs way too much to be so uncomfortable. Food was good but definitely not worth the price or the long wait standing around uncomfortably. And also it makes no sense the cashier behind the butcher counter can’t ring up to go orders. Had to wait on the one bartender to ring me up…. At the butcher counter. Makes absolutely no sense so I had to wait to put in an order then wait all day for it to get done hardly enjoyed my overpriced food because I was so exhausted by the time I left the place.

Marrow is always a great meal. The mushroom dumplings are amazing and their burger is one of the best if not THE best in Detroit.

Bone marrow was good I loved the biscuit too actually but the problem was the steak... it was the most chewy steak I've ever eaten so I requested replacement cuz $60 steak cannot be bad like this. So the server gave us another steak which is supposed to be more tender but it was the other version of exactly the same steak. I just didn't want to make any trouble so I tried to eat the steak as I am a steak lover but I couldn't even finish the steak even if it's the smallest portion I've ever seen. It's been a few hours after the dinner, my jaw still hurts

We ate at Marrow for my birthday. I did the Chefs menu which I highly recommend if you enjoy a variety of food and have a range when it comes to your pallet. It was all unique and delicious, my favorites were the fried green tomato, clam, and skirt steak. The fried tomato was in a very fresh light batter, with fresh herbs and other things on top. The clam was such a single bite, cooked in the shell with peppers- it was so savory! The skirt steak had a wonderful kick with so much flavor, I didn't expect it and it was a string way to end the meal!

Additionally we did the Marrow appetizer, it comes served in the bone with the lightest bread- it was a star! My husband ordered the dry aged duck- it was so good! Best duck ever!

Our waiter was wonderful and very attentive!

Consistently good food, high quality meats and some creative dishes for the Detroit area. The steak is off the charts so is the salad, bar menu is equally good.

We had the chef's tasting menu and found the dishes spotty, mostly in terms of composition. We love scallops with any kind of bacon or pancetta, but this scallop dish was overwhelmed by the other flavors, leaving the scallop behind. The corn served as part of the dish was the best thing on the plate. We had a similar response to another dish that felt equally poorly composed. We got the beverage pairing with our tasting menu which we also found oddly coordinated with the food. Normally we love a beverage pairing and always sip our drink first, then try it again after taking a bite of the accompanying dish to see how one enhanced the other. Time after time we found the pairing to be poor choice with the dish. Strange. I know this place has been nominated multiple times for James Beard awards, but it feels like it's either trying too hard or just a bit lost. Hard to tell from one visit.
