Maty's is awesome. I had the snapper and chicken plus rice. Food and service was excellent. Thank you

We've gone to Maty's at least a dozen times. We always get the whole chicken with rice. I love the food but the spice level is very inconsistent with each visit. For example, yesterday the rice was way too spicy for me. While sometimes its not very spicy at all. Even my wife, who loves spicy food, was surprised by the spice level. Ideally, Maty's would be consistent on this and perhaps generally have things only moderately spicy?

Delicious spice that COMPLETELY boosted the flavor of the peanut stew. I love their lemon rice as well.
However, my red snapper dinner with “jollof rice” and plantains was very subpar. Extremely bland to say the least.
And the plantains were severely undercooked on the inside!
Thankfully, the owner and his staff were committed to making sure I was happy so they tried making it again. It was still undercooked so they gave me a refund.
Don’t know if i’ll be back but if do, it’ll be for the peanut stew and rice with the delicious spicy sauce.
Really good portions!

Generous portions and generous pricing delivering your Senegalese favorites. My go to for when nothing but West African food suffices

Don't get me wrong, the food deserves a 5 star. But for a Restaurant that has been in detroits top 10, this place is so run down and not clean. I will never dine in.

Excellent West African food. The only thing I don’t like is the beautiful young lady cashier because every time my food is ready she “hisses” at me. She doesn’t say “Excuse me, your food is ready.” Oddly, she make a “ss” sound. Not sure why. I am also West African and I don’t recall a time in which anyone ever hissed at another person. But, the food is delicious.
