Nestled in Detroit's bustling streets, Penny's Red offers a unique dining experience that begins at a humble ordering window and continues at the cozy bar next door. This charming setup promises a casual yet inviting atmosphere, perfect for indulging in some of the city's best chicken. The star of the show, the bucket chicken, did not disappoint. Each piece was cooked to perfection, offering juicy, flavorful bites that kept us reaching for more. Complementing this was the honey biscuits, a delightful blend of sweet and savory that melted in our mouth, setting a high standard for comfort food.An unexpected hero was the tiny slaw. Its spicy kick was a refreshing contrast to the meal's richer elements, proving that sometimes, the smallest dishes pack the biggest punch. While the Brussels sprouts missed the mark on crispiness, their flavor was undeniable. As a Brussels sprouts enthusiast, I found myself enjoying them regardless, attributing their appeal to the well-balanced seasoning that elevated the dish.Dessert brought a show-stopping moment with a banana pudding cake creation that was nothing short of divine. It was the kind of dessert that tempts you to abandon all restraint, with a perfect balance of banana, pudding, and cake that felt both innovative and comforting. Had I not been mindful of my waistline, I might have succumbed to the temptation of ordering an abundance to savor every last bite.In conclusion, Penny's Red in Detroit offers a delightful mix of classic and inventive dishes, from their impeccable chicken to an unforgettable dessert. While there's minor room for improvement in the crispiness of their Brussels sprouts, the overall experience is a testament to the quality and care put into each dish. Penny's Red is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy heartwarming food in a laid-back setting, promising a meal that's as memorable as it is delicious.

I’m so mad I sat here and read over 4 reviews saying that the food here was good.that was literally the worst $23.52 I ever spent on some food.I bit into one piece of chicken that was so rough I just tossed it in the (just pure undercooked chicken and fries)garbage.VERY

We went Downtown for the Detroit Lions Drone Show. It drew a nice crowd of people I went into La Casa Cigar Lounge not for a cigar but a cup of coffee which they provided for a few. The ladies at La Casa were very nice I told them I’ll share with my Brother who is a Cigar person. Afterward I joined my Husband outside for the Drone show which was set to begin shortly and we enjoyed the company of many other people there who came out to see the show as well and what a great show it was everyone clapped and cheered as the drones displayed images in the sky that sparkled with colorful lights that moved and changed throughout the showAfterwards we walked over to Penny Reds first time there but I’ll definitely go back again everything we pitched was good. The chicken the (yummy biscuits) coleslaw and the Elote Corn all very tasty and we didn’t have to wait very long to get our order. Also very friendly people service from the person who took our order to the person preparing the food they had a good flow going back in the kitchen and it projected its way out to usLove the place thanks folks for the delicious food.

Chicken was really good and staff explained menu well. Menu is limited and food is pricey, especially when everything is Ala carte.Do t thi k I'd drive all the way down there to eat again, but if I'm in the city, and already paid for parking, I'd go back.

Overpriced, unseasoned chicken. It truly is an abomination. Like seriously, I'm not even taking the leftovers. I cannot believe food so bad exists in a city as soulful as Detroit. I don't have the words to describe how bad this chicken is. Zero chicken. That's the name Zero chicken. Zero flavor, zero love, zero stars.

The online ordering system doesnt work at all. I got a text message saying my order was ready and when I arrived the lady at the counter had no record of my order so I had to reorder it and wait another 15 mins. I order a K-town cutlet with fries and a side of honey biscuits. The fried coating was sliding off the sandwich. I also dont think peanuts on a chicken sandwich is a good combination. The only tasty part of my order were the honey biscuits.Parking: Parking is pretty far from the store and sometimes hard to find a spot.

Was in town visiting a friend and we decided to stop by here for a quick casual dinner. Prices were decent and I liked that the sauce bar was self serve so you could try each sauce and get more if you needed to. Service was quick and food was brought out hot.

My boy and I were in town for "The Game" (Go Blue). We decided to pick up Penny Reds fried chicken and take it back to the room to hang out. We ordered the 10pc bucket, crispy Brussels, and honey butter biscuits. the service was fast and they were friendly. Even after the 10min walk, the chicken was warm, crispy and so delicious!! Loved the crispy Brussels including the sauce. The honey and butter biscuits were delicious and my son tried to lick the container clean. Enjoyed the sauces as well with my favorite being the Soul Funky. The sweet and spicy is more of a honey mustard (not for me). I dropped the hot sauce on the sidewalk on the way back to our room, so I didn't really get to taste it. Happy we ordered the 10pc because now I have a few for my late-night snack tonight!

I am so disappointed, I drove from Canton to downtown Detroit to get that chicken! It was tasteless! It was still warm but it literally had zero flavor. I was so happy to drive to the city to support the company, only to be very disappointed.
