If you're looking for a culinary adventure, try Saffron De Twah, a Morcoccoan restaurant on the east side of Detroit. The food is amazing--the chicken sandwich is the best you'll ever have in your lifetime. Don't leave without trying the tea. What a presentation! Even more wonderful than the food is Chef/Owner Omar's hospitality & generousity!!! One of his core values is giving back to the commuity through the Saffron Community Kitchen and his YouTube presentations. Did I mention he is a James Beard finalist? I will return again & again. My only regret is I did not take photos.

Best meal I’ve had in years. Pita chips and dip were amazing. Potatoes were amazing. Chicken sandwich was amazing. Even the lemonade was amazing. Chef came out and talked to us, and is a super cool guy. Rest of staff friendly as well. If I could only recommend one place from our extended weekend in Detroit it would be here.

attentive and thoughtful service, food is incredibly good, made with love, i love that they dont use styrofoam or plastic for leftovers, pita chips are amazing, and thought its a little makeshift setting, it’s still nice!

If I could give this place 6 stars I would hands down the best food ive ever eaten in my life highly reccomend doing fish and or chicken sandwich and dont forget the potoatoes!!!!!! Also the orange blossom lemonade was a mustttttttt
Horrible, horrible experience. I was so excited to finally try this place but it was a huge letdown.
- My family and I & waited OVER 2 HOURS for our food.
- My tea was cold by the time it reached my table.
- My stew was lukewarm and needed salt.
- Half of menu was unavailable.
- We were sat on the patio in the cold for hours with the overhead heater not working in all the areas!
- We ordered 2 of each hummus/dip on the menu as our appetizer and we waited for them for OVER TWO HOURS only to be told there are any dips. ?? Mind you a table that came in behind us had pita chips & dip/hummus at their table. ???
- We had to keep asking for plates, silverware, napkins, cups, cutlery and water because they were not brought out to us.
- The wait staff was very nice, but they didn't really know the menu. They took several minutes reading the drink & food menus out loud to us, but didnt really know anything about what they were reading/couldn't answer the questions we had. It was weird, because we know how to read, you don't need to read to us, just be able to answer our questions.
- The owner was very snappy with his wait staff, one of whom it was their first day on the job.
All in all, I spent $50 on a cold pot tea and a virtually flavorless serving of stew that I waited hours for. The experience was in no way worth 50 dollars, not in temperature, quality, taste, or wait time.
My family of 14 and I equaled a table of $700+ for the evening and there was NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT or apology for our incredibly long wait time.
I really should've requested a refund or a comp for the meal but my family and I were having an amazing night and were ready to leave.
I understand that every resturant has good days and bad days but this experience was an absolute shame. An acknowledgement would've gone a long way.
There is so much incredible food and excellent service all over the city of Detroit. Will not be returning.

10s 10s 10s across the board! This was such a unique dining experience, with the Chef Omar coming to our table to explain the menu. We got the saffron tomato dip, lamb shank tagine (melted off the bone!!), and the bread pudding, all were heavenly! (Thank you for your recommendation of Castalia!)

I met Omar, the owner, this week at a lecture series called Creative Mornings where he sat on a panel about Detroit foodie culture.
He was so passionate and cool that I decided to bring my parents there on their visit this weekend from Pittsburgh.
We had an incredible meal that we all enjoyed immensely. My parents are total foodies especially my dad, and Omar came and hung out with us as we enjoyed the food and talked about all the dishes and what we would enjoy and we just had such a wonderful time.
We ordered the loaded hummus, the carrots, the labneh, The signature goat cheese and tomato dish. Then for entrées, my mom had the lamb shank, and my dad and I had the fish sandwich. The portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.
Then we enjoyed the bread pudding for dessert and it was outstanding. We also had the house lemonade, which was incredibly delicious and refreshing. We’ll be back.

Had such a great first experience at Saffron De Twah! The food was so amazing and so fresh! The orange blossom lemonade is to die for. The chef goes to each table to explain the menu which is such a special touch. My new favorite spot in Detroit!

We just returned from a trip to Detroit in which we had wonderful food at nearly every meal, however this is one of two meals that I have continued to revisit in my mind. I had the catfish sandwich- so flavorful and well prepared! The sauces and slaw were excellent, the fish was crisp and flaky. Really amazing food!

This place is sweet. there was only the chef/owner (im assuming) in the kitchen and one host/bus girl, so things took a minute to get going. you order at a window and then they bring it out. food was amazing. the loaded hummus was insane along with the pita chips. I would eat this weekly. fish sandwich was also delish would be 10/10 but I gave it a 8.5 because there were huge pieces of cabbage not shredded in the slaw mix. flavors were all on point. the bread pudding was incredible as well. try one of the NA malt beverages while youre there! very interesting. overall this place rocks and everyone should try it out!

I came to visit some friends and got recommended this place for the chicken sandwich which was amazing. But also God the fish sandwich which I preferred and was hands down the best fish sandwich I ever had. Was also greeted by the owner which was an awesome individual and I could tell he has a strong passion for food which shows in the quality and flavor of the meals. I would highly recommend this restaurant and would not hesitate to try anything on the menu! Will always stop by here when ever in town!
