Was here for a small group dinner. The Insalada Andeas was wonderful. A large serving of arugula, apple, crunchy nuts, raisins and perfectly balanced sweet and tangy dressing. Since I wasn’t in the mood for pasta, I chose the lamb meat ball (added a forth ball for $5) appetizer for entree. The meat balls wee soft and moist and the sauce was very flavorful. San Morello is widely regarded as one of Detroit’s top dining destinations, and I genuinely wanted to love it. While it delivered on service, ambiance, and beverages, the food left me underwhelmed.
The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, striking the perfect balance between modern organic aesthetics and the warmth of a traditional Italian trattoria. The red and white checked tablecloths and classic Chianti bottle candle holders are charming details.

San Morello has a great atmosphere and excellent service. The appetizers were definitely the highlight of the meal—everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared, but the real star of the show was the meatballs. They were tender, well-seasoned, and absolutely delicious.
