An absolute gem in Detroit! Drinks were superb. Service was at its peak. Loved sitting at the bar watching drinks be made and the interactions between the staff. It gives a fine dining kitchen counter experience without the price and with personable personalities and full flavor delicious food. Without a doubt will recommend and be back.

Such an elegant spot with a great selection of food and drinks-
Walking into Standby almost feels like going back in time, giving you a glimpse into what late night dining must have been like in the Golden Age of Detroit. The food selection was simple yet delicious. The newspaper menu format was also pretty neat. The smash burger was to die for, literally so good.
Their drink selection was equally as impressive and almost mysterious. I opted for the milkshake cocktail, and was surprised at how good it was. Wish we could have been in town for longer, cus Standby’s a spot I’d love to frequent. Highly recommend.

We never even got to eat here, but we’re very disappointed with the communication and service. We were told a few tables were about to leave and to put our number in for a text update, which said the wait would be 2–15 minutes. 45 minutes later, with zero updates, we decided to leave. They never even notified us that our table was ready. Poor communication overall, just be honest if you can't seat someone anytime soon.
Phenomenal. Every dish we ordered was a hit, even the salad. The dishes to note are the scallop ceviche, the crispy pork belly toast, beef short ribs, and the Granny Smith coffee cake. We went as a group of 4 and ordered 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 deserts and left stuffed. Staff was a 10/10 and the interior is a tight cozy place with dim lights. It was a little difficult to find the restaurant but it’s well worth the hunt! Would recommend for date nights or any occasion.

We had a reservation following a Tigers game. Arrived shortly before opening. We were seated with no fuss. The service was excellent, and the food and cocktails were outstanding. Our party of 4 ordered about half the menu and devoured it all.

Food was excellent. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quick. The drink menu was so creative and just a delight all on its own. No other cocktail bar I’ve been to has rivaled how creative their drinks are. I will definitely be back and will recommend this place to anyone visiting Detroit.

The experience started off really good with the hostess at the front who was very nice and helpful, but thats where everything came to a screeching hault with this place.
The wait staff that served us could barely remember what we ordered and had to come back and ask what we ordered.
The small plates were a major disappointment on multiple levels. The 1 Lb of Chicken Wings barely looked like a pound, i think they were adding the plate that they came on as part of the weight. The wings were dry and burnt. How the heck do you make dark meat on a chicken dry? Its the most forgiving meat but they must have really over cooked it, since it was burnt. They said it was charred but there is a fineline between char and burnt.
The carrots were just a few little tiny carrots with no seasoning on them at all, the sauce helped but still felt like it was kind of bland and a bit undercooked.
The main entree was bad also. The so called Chicken Schnitzel was burnt on the edges and overly done. They put finishing salt on it at the end and got way too HEAVY HANDED with the salt, it was really salty. The mayo was a travesty, they said it was curry mayo, but it was so thick like wallpaper paste and it tasted of cheap curry powder that they got from Krogers. It was no pleasant at all.
The waitstaff was inattentive and my glass of water went empty during most of the meal and I needed it after having that salty chicken and burnt food still trying to make its way down in my stomach. The food runner seemed untrained, he was just plopping down food and not asking who got what. I said that the food that he put in front of me was for my friend, he just pushed it down instead of picking it back up and handing it to him.
So after all this... I was severely disappointed in this place. I wouldnt recommend it at all. Save your money instead of paying a lot of money for tiny portions of sub par mediocre food.
Just go elsewhere where you might get better service, better food and better value for the money.

The vibe was excellent. It was the last 20 minutes of the night and I was still able to get a drink. Service was quick. Drink was delicious. Enjoy my birthday night.

My favorite bar of all time. The drinks are always creative and great. The vibe is unmatched. The staff is always on point. And while I don't come here for the food, it always exceeds expectations. Not a bad thing to say.

After a long travel day from we were met with ‘Good news’ from none other than this amazing cocktail bar whose entire staff of artist has curated an actual news paper as a menu. There is such a great art energy here that it makes one want to just stay and enjoy everything they make. Our bartenders were powerhouses in their mixology and each drink they had made individually. We are from LA and our cocktail scene is strong but never has a bar supported their own bar staff to make their own drinks and then stand behind them enough to promote them. Thats some love right there. We will definitely be back when we vacation in Detroit next. Yes thats right we love your town so much we vacation there! And it’s because of very cool places like Standby!
