I came to this restaurant with a friend expecting a pleasant experience — but what happened was simply unacceptable. We ordered the Chicken Lemonado, a dish we’ve had here before that usually takes around 20 minutes to prepare. But this time, we waited over an hour and a half, and the food never arrived.
The waiter kept telling us “just a few more minutes,” while clearly avoiding the issue. We’ve visited this restaurant multiple times in the past and never had this kind of delay, which makes us feel like we were deliberately being ignored — maybe because the place was packed and they were prioritizing others who came after us.
Eventually, when we got fed up and decided to leave, the manager came over offering us the food “for free,” supposedly to keep the restaurant’s reputation. But honestly, it felt more like a last-minute excuse than a genuine apology — especially after wasting so much of our time. And to top it all off, we were still charged for the appetizers. That was just insulting.
I’ve never felt so disrespected in a place I used to enjoy. Terrible service, poor management, and absolutely no regard for loyal customers. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless things seriously change.

Our first time to Greek Town and everything was great! Quick and friendly service, amazing food, modern atmosphere, and reasonable prices! We will definitely be recommending others to visit!

Maybe it was only a one time thing but we weren’t happy this visit. We’ve been going to Golden Freece for many many years, since I was a kid. Our last visit, June 2025, we found the portions have dropped significantly. The saganaki flaming cheese was very thin. The gyros meat per dish seemed much less than the past. I mentioned it to the server but they didn’t seem to care…they get a mandatory 20% tip directly on the bill, so why should they care much.

My husband and I love this place! We stop in every time we fly into Detroit. I love the authentic Greek dishes. The cheese flambe, the hummus, chicken with lemon, my husband has had the gyro, and the lamb kebabs. Everything is good!

We came to Golden Fleece in Greektown as a family of five before a Tigers game, hoping to enjoy a quick and delicious meal. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. We ordered lamb gyros, and after waiting 40 minutes, our server (who was very kind and apologetic) explained that the lamb is cooked on a stick and cut to order—but due to how busy they were, it needed to continue cooking.
After nearly an hour, only two of our sandwiches arrived, and both were made incorrectly (we had requested no sauce, but they were covered in it). On top of that, the restaurant still didn’t have enough lamb ready to complete the rest of our order. The waitress sincerely apologized, took the sandwiches back, and explained that she would speak with the owner. She was very kind and professional throughout and admitted this isn’t how things normally go, but ultimately advised us it was best to head to the game as the rest of our food would take much longer. The rotisserie machine cooking the lamb couldn’t keep up with the demand, so our gyros were severely delayed—even after nearly an hour, they still didn’t have enough cooked lamb to complete our order and she didn’t want us to miss the game. This has never happened to me at a restaurant and I am so surprised and disappointed.
While we appreciated the honesty and our server’s kindness, the experience was incredibly frustrating—especially given how long we waited and still left without a full or correct meal. Hopefully this was just an off night, but sadly, we won’t be back.

I love the place. Best gyro in greektown. I am updating this review after a recent experience, but I am not okay with the 20% gratuity in the bill with a party of only 2 people. I’ll be the judge if someone deserves a 20% tip and this most recent time did not meet my expectations to tip 20%. This will stop me from coming back or only getting take out from now on.

Golden is our favorite spot in Greektown. Price, food and service are always spot on. My only wish would be an expanded beer selection.

Absolutely amazing spot on flavors. We visited Greece this past summer and have searching for a place that's authentic. This is it! Quaint atmosphere, excellent friendly service ( Aileen is the best) and excellent food. This was the best date night we've had in a long time. We will definitely be back!

Is there a LOVE everything button! Cannot express enough how great Golden Fleece is. The staff and the food is absolutely amazing. Everyone has gone out their way to ensure we had everything -and then some - that we needed- even on their busiest days. We’ve had two big family catering orders in last few months and been down a few times to eat in and this has become my favorite place.
Thank you for making my Uncle’s 80th birthday today so special.
