If you’re looking for bold flavors, vibrant energy, and a space that bridges the gap between plant-based and traditional food lovers, this is it. The Kitchen by Cooking with Que is a must-visit for anyone—vegan or not—who appreciates soul-filled meals and a true Detroit vibe.

Every Friday, the place transforms with “Tiny Kitchen” concerts featuring Detroit DJs and a lively crowd. It’s not just a meal—it’s a whole experience. Founder Que Broden has created something truly special: a Black-owned vegan café and event space that radiates purpose, flavor, and hospitality.

The food? Fantastic. The crispy vegan egg rolls are loaded with flavor and crunch. The coconut curry chickpeas are a warm, comforting dish with perfect spice. And if you skip the vegan mac—you’re making a mistake. It’s creamy, cheesy (without the cheese), and downright addictive.

Also—don’t miss the truffle fries. Enough said.

🧆 Must Try: Vegan Egg Rolls, Coconut Curry Chickpeas, Que’s Signature Vegan Mac

🎶 Bonus: Live DJs + “Friday Night Wine Down” = the most Detroit way to start your weekend.

This place has a nice vibe like being at home with the music playing great food and happy people. Quo is an amazing person!!
We paid $10 in advance to ensure a seat at the bar and paid $ 8 to park after 630 pm in the lot behind the restaurant 🤔. The drinks were good 😋 and creative. I ordered the seasoned potatoes with peppers and chicken & turkey meatballs. The potatoes were delicious, The meatballs took forever to come out and they were not good at all.😐 . The vegan mac n cheese, southwest egg rolls, and chicken wings were also good. I'll be back soon.

Good food, service not good, hours inconsistent. My Go to for Mac and cheese but Update your google info. Very misleading and frustrating and then when you call they answer, but not open?? Why are you answering the phone?

Super bummed by my experience. I’ve wanted to try this place forever and I finally had an opportunity to. When we walked in, there was an extremely strong smell reminiscent of sewage. I’m sure this isn’t normal but no one said anything about it and while I expected it to go away it never did, which is pretty unappetizing. I’d let that go, though, if food and service made up for it. Unfortunately, it did not. After placing our order, our glasses with ice for our water never came, which the server had offered to us. We ordered an appetizer and two orders of vegan Mac. 45 mins later, the vegan Mac finally came out. I let them know we had ordered an appetizer, and they said it was coming….personal pet peeve to get the starter after the main, I order a starter because I’m hungry. When the spring rolls did come out, it was 2 small rolls for $10, and the dipping sauce was just soy sauce. The chicken on the vegan Mac was dry and not flavorful, but I put an extra star on food because I did like the Mac, though my mom was not a fan. I really wanted to love this place, we need more vegan options in the city! But unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be back.

Although the place is small, quaint, and has an intimate vibe, the service was unfortunately awful. The music was extremely loud I could barely hear myself placing my order. After waiting an hour and a half, my food finally arrived: vegan chicken and mac. The “vegan chicken” was overcooked and tough, likely air-fried to death it was so hard I couldn’t even eat it, and everything was cold. I had also ordered a salad, which didn’t arrive until I was cashing out. The drink was the only highlight, but overall, I probably wouldn’t dine here again. My friends food was also cold:/ bummer.

Cool place, and I always wanted to try it. The staff was friendly but the food was just okay. Maybe it's worth coming back for music and drinks.

We tried several dishes. No favorites unfortunately. We waited for 50 minutes. Updated from previous review on 2024-11-16

The atmosphere and staff were fantastic. And the food is delicious. Even if you aren't a vegetarian, the food is so so so good, you'll never realize it's all vegetarian. And my favorite part was the rattlesnake Rita, oh my gosh it was by far the best drink I have ever had in my life!!

So good! So healthy! All day brunch on Saturday and Sunday is amazing. Friday nights are super fun. There is always a DJ from 4p-9p, and just the right kind of after work vibes. This is truly a place where vegans and meat-eaters coexist!

Everything on the menu is good, but let’s talk about some of my favorites… the vegan fish sandwich is AMAZING. Caprese Panini is amazing whether you get it with vegan chicken or regular chicken. The Oh Kale Yeah! Burger is a best seller. You can’t go wrong with the Chicken Pita (ask for it “all the way with both sauces” ?) or a Chicken Caesar wrap (vegan or real chicken). The vegan mac & cheese and house potatoes are a great snacks or appetizers. The sliders are great and come in 3 options. You can’t miss with the tacos. The southwest eggrolls are to die for. All the salads are fresh and filling and have a protein option.

Brunch…I suggest The Que, apple pancakes and/or loaded grits.

All the smoothies are one-of-a-kind recipes (try the peach cobbler, no matter what time of year it is). The lavender lemonade is always refreshing.

Yes, I’ve tried everything on the menu!

They also just opened a bar! I’m a whiskey girl so I love the Crimson, which is a delightful play on an old-fashioned. The Espresso Martini is refreshing and delicious. If you like vodka, I suggest trying the Shine Bright. They also have a nice selection of wines including non-alcoholic options, as well as mocktails.

If you’re in Detroit and looking for healthy options the whole crew will love, you have to stop here.

They also offer cooking classes and meal prep!

Lastly, the staff is wonderful and everyone is friendly. All are welcome here!

We ordered the vegan chicken and waffles the stacked waffle sandwich and the cheesey grits. The grits were the best part of this meal. The vegan chicken had all the flavors but I would gladly take roscoes over this one. The sandwich was just so small, it was like tapas but at a full meal price.
