We provided composting services for this coffee shop beginning over a year ago. They still have unpaid invoices totaling about $500, despite multiple polite reminders. I’ve been patient, but unfortunately they haven’t followed through on payment.

Quaint and quiet...has a small selection of groceries and the baked goods were delicious (especially the lemon bars!!). Coffee was great and tea selection was good as well. Whether you sit inside or out on the patio, the atmosphere is chill and pleasant. It's fitting for the neighborhood and black owned, love this! ❤️ I will definitely be returning and telling everyone I know, thank you guys for a welcomed first time in ☺️

Owner was incredibly aggressive. Told me I could not study there during the weekend because it’s a “coffee shop” . I know it’s a coffee shop, that’s why I came. It was very unprofessional and I was very upset to get this kind of service from a black owner. He obviously assumed that I wasn’t going to buy anything, but didn’t even ask! It was 630am and I was barely there not even 10mins. Planned to have breakfast there, but he didn’t even ask. I would have appreciated if he would have just said we only allow studying on the weekends if u buy something. Then I would have told him I planned on getting something. Instead he insults my intelligence, talking about it’s a coffee shop, duh! That’s y I’m here! And because of his assumption I wasn’t going to mention I intended on buying breakfast because he was basically kicking me out. Sometimes ppl want to sit for a minute, again it was 630am, but clearly I wasn’t moving up to the counter fast enough for him. And he didn’t even say Goodmorning when I walked in and said Goodmorning first! I will not be giving my money to an establishment that treats their customers this way. It was just very very unprofessional and unnecessary the way he handled this situation. I will never be back again.

I feel more than qualified to leave this review as someone who lives around Midtown and has visited this place many times. I wanted to like it. It’s convenient, and I enjoy supporting small businesses—my family owns a few restaurants and other establishments, so I get it.

The most recent time I went in, my croissant was burnt. They also didn’t have everything ready for an iced chai latte, so I had to wait over 20 minutes. When I finally received it and took a sip, it was completely watered down and flavorless. It was, hands down, the worst iced chai latte I’ve ever had—across many cafes in Detroit and Michigan in general.

And this wasn’t a one-time fluke. I’ve had several subpar experiences here. I honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t have to wait at least 20 minutes just for a drink. What makes it more baffling is how small the place is. I’ve never seen more than five people inside at once—either ordering or waiting. So why does it always take so long?

To top it off, I once saw a barista get into a full-blown argument with a so-called regular over a menu item. The regular had been ordering the same drink for years, and it wasn’t until the manager stepped in that the barista was told the item was in fact on the menu.

As for the food—aside from the burnt croissant—everything else I’ve tried was either stale from sitting too long in the display case or overcooked. And let’s not forget the cherry on top: flies buzzing around the display case during the summer. :)

Like I said, I really tried to like this place. But if you’re looking for a cafe, try somewhere else—Red Hook, Dessert Oasis, Kitab, or even the Starbucks on Wayne State’s campus. Honestly, anywhere is better than here.

A beautiful cozy little cafe locally owned! I hade the best oat milk latte (they are hard to make apparently, since I had a lot of not so good ones! 😅). Loved the service! And read a little too!

Had a lovely morning at The Roost! My iced vanilla latte was deliciously smooth, with the milk frothed on the top instead of just poured in. There’s a little market with food, drinks and a few groceries, along with a case of baked goods that has something for everyone! I’ll definitely be back to try their sandwiches. The staff was very friendly and there was a great neighborhood vibe with outdoor tables.

I just had the worst service at The Roost. I ordered a 12oz Frappuccino. The guy put 5 full scoops of ice in the blender for 12 oz. He gave it to me and it tasted like water. He said he could add more mix. I opted no. They didn’t know how to do a refund. Here is a fixture of what they handed me.
