Best coffee shop in Detroit with amazing neighborhood. Oh I just love it so much. Beautiful Victorian homes, grab a coffee and go for a walk. Their display case is super neat !!! I love everything but the grey LVP flooring lolll

This is one of my favorite cafes in Detroit. The food and drinks are delicious and reasonably, and I love the communal seating arrangement. Laptops are not allowed, so bring a book, or chat with neighbors. I appreciate that it’s dog-friendly too.

Absolutely charming little spot with beverages and food to eat in and a little market to go. I positively LOVE that they don't allow laptops. This is a space for community convenings or private time, such as to read, which is so wonderful.

Best hot chocolate I ever had in my whole life (over 60 years :). Great neighborhood atmosphere. The BLT sandwich and egg frittata both delicious and served with fresh salad or excellent fresh fruit.

Went in to try the hot cocoa, which was part of a contest on Good Morning America for the best hot cocoa in America. The cocoa was indeed wonderful! It was a little spicy, and came with your choice of whipped cream (I skipped this) and marshmallows (I did not skip these). I would definitely order it again. It's truly a cut above.
Yet the best part was talking to Jeff, the owner. He's been in the neighborhood his whole life, and he's super-friendly and curious about his customers. Owners with a great product who run their businesses with this much passion for their work get 5 stars from me ALL DAY LONG.

Just got coffee at The Roost and was told that I can't bring out my laptop to work or even check emails. I saw a sign on a table that said no laptops on the weekends and thought it was a joke. It wasn't till the owner came out and told me himself that they weren't allowed. I would advise putting a sign outside the cafe if that's the case, to not waste people's time who want to go and sit down in the cafe to do work.
I don't recommend this place and will not be coming back! Only gave them two stars for the decent cappuccino.

I was just in there this morning and Luretia took care of me from the moment I walked in. They were friendly and then they made me a wonderful cup of hot cocoa and I got coffee and they put some of the hot cocoa in my coffee....hello, amazing..I'm so blisseed out right now! Their spirit was so beautiful and friendly. The store was immaculate as it always is when I come in there. I like the new arrangement of the tables .I'm so sorry my boots tracked in snow that melted despite my trying to kick off all the snow outside.
Thanks for starting my day off in such a wonderful way..cheers°°!!

The Roost is one of those places that instantly makes you feel welcome. The service is genuinely friendly, the vibe is relaxed and local, and you can tell there’s a lot of care put into everything they do. Their bake good and groceries—-are unique offerings that set them apart without feeling try-hard—just thoughtful, well-executed, and delicious. It’s the kind of spot you come back to not just for the coffee, but for how it makes you feel.
If I had to sum it up in a few words: one of a kind ☕️

I was going to The Roost at least 3 times a week. The breakfast sandwiches were so good. The owner, she was amazing very friendly and personable. The young man they had working the register made a lot of mistakes but you can tell he had good intentions and was learning. BUT the second to last time I went, I ordered 2 turkey bacon breakfast biscuits (Cat daddy’s I believe they were called) and a Dirty chai with almond milk. My husband verified with the young man the bacon was turkey and the young man assured it was turkey bacon as we do not eat pork. My husband gets home with the food and the sandwiches were pork bacon and my dirty chai was just a regular latte. So I couldn’t eat the sandwiches and was afraid to drink the latte because if you gave me pork you could’ve gave me regular milk. Now all is forgiven because I understand as a relatively new establishment mistakes happen but once I received every item in my order was wrong. I called (number on google) multiple times and never got an answer. I then left a voicemail with my contact info and explaining the situation. I still have never received a call back. My husband went back and they were closed then he went back again and told the man behind the counter the entire situation and advised him I left a voicemail. So he placed my same order as before and he gave us my sandwich on the house and charged us for my husbands sandwich and my latte. Which I thought was unfair if I’m telling you I spent probably over $20 and my ENTIRE order was wrong, I left a voicemail explaining this and you aware the young man behind the counter is very well capable of this mistake and you didn’t try to verify my story call me back and offer to replace my entire order, or just replace my entire order because we are regulars at this point. I LOVED the ambiance of the establishment, the breakfast sandwiches when made correct and supporting the business but that situation just left a bad taste in my mouth so I haven’t been back. This is not to discourage anyone else from trying them out because I would recommend them but it’s just not for me. I really value good customer service and this particular incident did not make me feel like a valued customer. I don’t usually leave reviews especially negative ones but hopefully this can help them grow as a staff and establishment. I wish them the best of luck.

Such a quaint little coffee ☕️ shop tucked on a side street in Detroit. The barista was super friendly and helpful. The coffee was absolutely amazing. Plus they have a cute little market and some tables for chatting it up. They make you feel super welcome. The vibe is amazing.
