We were in Dexter for another reason and looking for a place to grab lunch. We wanted something local and not your typical sandwiches and brunch items on a Saturday. Hotel Hickman Chuckwagon BBQ popped up on our Google search of places nearby. This place caught our attention because the meats are smoked onsite and the reviews mentioned how good the smoked brisket is along with portion sizes being large. The place is small with 4 chairs to sit at if you want to eat inside but there are picnic tables outside too. We got 2 of the lunch specials - brisket sandwiches, potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and wild berry cobbler. The lunch special comes with a choice of sandwich, a side, a dessert, and a can of soda (if you don’t want the dessert, you can get a second side). There are 2 sauces - regular and mustard. We got the regular and it is more of a tangy and thin. rather than sweet and thick BBQ sauce. The brisket was moist and had a faint smoky flavor. The potatoes are like loaded mashed potatoes and very yummy. The macaroni and cheese was not very cheesy and had a hot pepper taste. The wild berry cobbler had an oat topping and was slightly sweet to end the meal.

Parking: Parking is available nearby and serves all of the stores in the area.

I went there to try the brisket and there were all out at 2pm, decided to try their pulled pork instead. The pulled pork seemed like it was sitting in a thin sauce, had a weird taste to it, couldn’t even taste any of the smoke flavor. I’d prefer if the sauce was on the side. It still tasted good and had good flavor. It definitely didn’t taste like the smoked pulled pork I’m used too. Price of the pulled pork seemed really steep to, $19 for a lb of mediocre pork.

Brisket was incredibly tough and actually required me to “tear” it with my teeth multiple times. Sides were ok, nothing special. My wife’s pulled pork looked good and she said it tasted great but some of the worst barbecue brisket I’ve had in a while.

YUM, tender cooked brisket sandwich was great. I like it is served without sauce already added. They have a good choice of BBQ sauces to choose from. Cole slaw and potato salad were tasty too!! Can't wait to come back.

The best BBQ around! Wonderful little shop thats charm is only outmatched by the food. Tender smoked brisket, excellent sauce, creamy mac, and an apple cobbler that I'll have to keep secret from my mother. The only place on my list for Barbecue.

I ordered the Brisket sandwich, and didn't know that it would come plain, and I was also not asked if I wanted sauce. I assume that a BBQ joint would put BBQ sauce on their meats, but they don't. I got back to work and now I'm forced to east a very dry sandwich. Will not be returning!

Great people and good food. I had the brisket with cowboy beans and slaw. Would I recommend, yes. Would I go back, yes.

I had the brisket, Mac and cheese, and the potatoes. Everything was amazing! The brisket was so moist and flavorful, the Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious, and the potatoes were some of the best I have ever had. My husband had the same sides and the pork shoulder, which he said was delicious. We also tried the regular and the blueberry butter cake. It was with the 40 minute drive just for that!

It is always good to help out the smaller businesses in town. Always enjoy Hotel Hickman, their food is good. The last few years I can see how the economy has impacted prices. Will continue to support to help keep things running regardless.

The worse ribs I ever had . They were tough and not cooked in sauce. I heard so much about the ribs and was so disappointed.

Vegetarian options: The potatoes were good.

Looking for really good comfort food, stop in here. They have really great breakfasts and we've used them several times to cater parties at our home. Our guests always rave about how good the food is!

I wish I could give a 3.5 because it wasn't truly a 3 or a 4.The meat was hit or miss. My party had the brisket - which was moist, where I had the pulled pork and it was dry.The BBQ sauce was nothing spectacular, which in my opinion, if you are a BBQ place you NEED BBQ sauce to win over all others.I think a toasted bun and more topping options would be just the little extra kick to make the flavor excel. The sides were also hit or miss, the Mac and cheese was a little bland and the potatoes were a little dry.

Good food, good prices. We got the lunch specials with the sausage and pulled pork. Good flavors, only improvements would be warm deserts.
