If I could give this place zero stars I would. We never got our food after waiting over an hour. The workers were rude and not helpful. They seemed put out to have to work. Even as a college bar, the atmosphere was extremely dirty. I will never be back.

Went there to relax on my only day off from work. Minding my own business however acknowledging people when they acknowledged me was approach by a young man and said he had numerous complaints about my harassing people so I told him that was rediculous and I asked to speak with the manager and they declined allowing me to do so . For the one night I was trying to relax. My night got ruined. All in all I was very disappointed and will be sharing this experience with all my friends. I know a lot of people that would be interested in this story and I will more than likely be reporting them to the better business bureau. And the health department. It stunk to high heaven in there as well. A huge disappointment it turned out to be on my only day off. I used the restroom while there abd there was human feces on the seat.

Poorly run by management... My student org hosted a joint fundraising event with the Riv in September of 2024, where the Riv agreed to collect all cover and donations and give them to out organization. The bouncers and bar staff did not collect cover from everyone, and actually refused to accept donations when our members attempted to donate. I am really disappointed in the Riv, and to add on, the Riv never answers their phones or gives you a call back after you leave a message. Our org now has a rule to never hold events at the Riv. We prefer Landshark or any other bar in EL, where the management and staff hold true to their agreements and run their business with intergity, transparency, and are effective communicators.
Hopefully the Riv changes the way they are organized soon. If you are a campus organization, don't look to host your event at the Riv.

A great place to Grab a Cold one with a co_worker. (After The Shift) Pool , Arcade , local topics , Keno , Celebrations And Congratulations , Cigar shop and pizza by the slice near by. In connection with work break and down time between classes.

Had to give it 1 star. Spent 4 days trying to get a simple question answered. They wouldn't answer phone, wouldn't answer their contact form, wouldn't answer their Facebook. We took our business elsewhere and won't look back.

The Riv has one of the most inviting and welcoming environments of any bar in east lansing. All the staff show the upmost respect for all of their customers. My only issue is the other day a group of women were being very aggressive towards the DJ and calling him names because they wouldn't play some rapper named Tee Grizzley. They then proceeded to argue with staff and call them words that I do not feel comfortable typing out. Security promptly removed them from the bar which made everyone feel much safer as they were getting very aggressive and confrontational. I will definitely be coming back!

I can't blame the service....they're serving a "pre-mixed" product. But to charge $9 for a long Island, then serve me a pitcher of sugary water, 0% ABV? Simply unacceptable.Edit/message to owner: thanks for assuring me with your "internal review". If you really cared you'd offer me a refund ? Until then we won't be coming back!
I asked the DJ to play TGrizzley. The dj said he didn’t have it. And I asked what does he mean he doesn’t have it. He said he doesn’t have it. He ran to the bar. The bartenders said I had to leave. I left peacefully. As I’m walking out the door I hear the security giggling asking if I’m a boy or a girl. So I come back in and ask what my sexuality matters and nobody wanted to answer who said it. They said they would call the police when I said nothing to get the police called. The RIV bouncers are homophobic and I will never be back. I felt so uncomfortable because of their laughing. What does my sexuality matter?

Security man tried to punch my female customer in the face and was fighting to assault a woman who was posing no threat… intensely unprofessional and embarrassing. terrible ownership. 0/10

I wish I could leave less than a 0. Several body guards threatened to FIGHT ME and beat me up even though I did nothing. Their own friends had to hold them back from beating on a 125lb 5’5 girl … I also didn’t give them any trouble when my friend was asked to leave. I left with 0 issues and was still threatened with psychical assault!!Dont go here :)
