Crane's Pie Pantry Restaurant & Winery

Above and beyond. I do not live in MI, but wanted to send a pie to a friend who was going through some rough stuff. So I ordered from Crane's and I was having trouble with arranging a delivery so I called the restaurant and Sara (I hope I spelled her name right) generously hand delivered it herself!

Such an incredible thing to do. Talking to Sara was like a warm hug and made my day, as well as my friend's. Midwest folks are the nicest most genuinely kind people on the planet. Sara, you're a real one and I won't forget what you did!

We went, and highly recommend going out of your way for this gem. Everything we tried was exquisitely flavor-crafted.

Pictured here, is the Liaison off-dry apple cherry barrel-aged cider with the Orchard Salad.

Other sampled items, duly notable *kids meals free with adult meal purchase kid and adult approved French toast. Large breakfast Sammy (lightly spread jalapeño jam), Edelzwicker 2023 (rose petal-tangerine-ginger).

We also sampled and took to-go their cinnamon sugar donuts, Apple Crisp Pie, and a bottle of 2021 Merlot (tobacco-plum-cherry).

We will make a detour next time passing Holland.

We bought the chocolate chip cookie dough balls this past weekend. We just baked them and oh my….they make the best CC cookies I’ve ever had!!

"My husband and I were both greatly disappointed with the pie!!! tart cherries and not a ton of flavor, the bottom crust so thin it was barely visible, and pie did not hold its shape at all! Kind of like a blob on the plate. Glad I wasn’t serving to guests. Won’t do that again!! I expected the best cherry pie ever from the Pie Pantry. Unfortunately, it was the worst we ever had!"

I didn't make the trip from Grand Rapids like Sandra and her husband, thankfully, but only to a local grocery store, "Forest Hills Foods," which stocks the Crane's frozen "self-bake" Cherry Pie. The pie's flavorless gelatinous filling includes none of the delicious traditional flavor enhancements such as almond extract and a few butter pats. Its bottom crust was almost non-existent, showing mostly tissue-paper-thin. I would have done better and far less expensively with a campfire pie iron and a five-dollar can of "Our Family"-brand Cherry Pie Filling over one of my kitchen stove-top burners. My only disagreement with Sandra is that I've found that the similarly-priced "Grand Traverse Pie Company" version is even worse, containing less fruit held together by globs of disgustingly thick red-colored glue. It's beyond me as to why Crane's continues to earn such high ratings for its pies. I wouldn't purchase one again if they were selling at half-price.

Hard to say if it is any good since their voicemail says they are open until 6 and they clearly are not. We were one of several cars in the parking lot turning around at 5.

What a great little slice of history! Cold blustery day, so we all had grilled cheese sandwiches and chili. Had to take a couple of pieces of pie for later, too! Recommend!

We tried their pies for the first time last year and we was amazed at how good their pies were. They are so big!! We love them.

My husband was there 2 weeks ago for a nice lunch. He said the food was amazing and he wanted to surprise me with some dessert that night. When he got home he handed me the package that said cinnamon rolls. Little did we know they were apple cinnamon rolls and they had pecans within the cinnamon rolls. I am allergic to pecans and my husband asked the worker if they had any and the worker pulled out a book and said no. Thankfully I caught it before having a ton but being pregnant and not allowed to give myself a epi-pen, they need to be careful with their labeling and maybe write a new book because they did in fact have nuts and had to go in the trash causing a huge health risk. Not ok. I won't buy anything homemade there anytime soon after that.

This is absolutely the best roast beef sandwich I have ever had in my life.

I absolutely loved this restaurant experience! Cozy and the food was fabulous, with great prices. I recommend the Crane'sMichigan Cherry Wine. Our service was excellent. Will definitely eat there again.

Such a terrific place. The decor and building are worth the trip alone. But then the food was so superb it was just like my grandma was in the kitchen. After we ate we had to stop in the bakery to get most of what we had to take home.
