The GTO actually kinda does taste like a french onion soup in bread.

I also didn't think apricot was going to be a good combination with a grilled cheese sandwich, and yet, look at me now.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are great here. Highly recc

They also have good selection of different alcohols and cheeses. There is also free parking behind the store.

Mongers is a great source for specialty foods you want to serve for that special night with family and friends. They have a great selection of wine that won't break the bank, which is great, so you can overspend on specialty meets and cheese that are hard to find from the far corners of the planet.

If you need to sample something, don't be shy. They are generous and very knowledgeable about their products. It is one of those places staffed by #DetroitFriendly people who genuinely love food and helping people discover new flavors.

Awesome place! You must check this place out! Fabulous choices in chocolate, coffee, and wines. They have a wonderful restaurant attached as well with a nice menu. I have not eaten there yet but the sandwiches look yummy.

Amazing cheese and meat shop, I love the Wagyu Pastrami and their mortadella. They also sell a lot of specialty foods and alcohol. Their tastings are also very education and delicious.

Mongers brings the experience of a high-end butcher, cheesemonger, and chocolateria from European cities to the suburbs, and I couldn't be happier.

They provide an exceptional selection of gourmet cheeses, artisanal meats, and choice loaves of bread. You'll find options a literal cut above the supermarket deli and I've been able hard-to-source alternatives for recipes, charcuterie boards, and my own foodie aspirations. Seriously, if they offer samples of the cheese, you'll have to roll me out of here.

The deli makes great seasonal sandwiches that change regularly throughout the month. These come with generous helpings of meat, cheese, and vegetables, and they're flavourful alternatives to fast food with high-quality local provender. I've had an excellent opportunity to sample the deli's options by coming up for lunch as a splurge now and then. Great staff who are far more versed and knowledgeable than I can help with recommendations or offer great suggestions for special meals or spreads.

Their gift wall for coffees, teas, biscuits, and chocolates is outright dangerous. I have wanted to sample quite a bit of that chocolate on display and my wallet and waistline appreciate if I limit myself. But you shouldn't; lots of parking, great hours, and lots of ongoing events make this a wonderful gem in our community.

Yummmmmm! I love the vibe in here, and the food and drinks are delicious! The provisions are well-researched and very high quality. I was particularly excited to find Hooks cheddar cheese! It’s my FAVORITE CHEESE EVER and it’s not easy to find (unless you’re in Wisconsin maybe?) We got a bunch of different cheeses and a couple different meats, crisps, drinks, sweets and nuts. It was a perfect charcuterie ? 11/10

I was conflicted upon leaving this establishment. A part of me was satisfied; a part of me was annoyed. We patronized this establishment on a Saturday afternoon, around 1PM. It was not busy at all.

I went in looking for 5 year aged parmiggiano reggiano. I figured an establishment that markets itself as purveyors of fine cheese would surely have it. I was disappointed to find they only had 24-month aged PR, which I can get at my local grocery store. The young woman helping us was very knowledgable, respectful and very customer-service oriented.

(a) But when she turned to ask a colleague/owner/expert about finding 5-year aged PR, the man kept his back to me and didn't even turn to engage the customer. It felt like we were bothering him. I thought that was strange. Their response on the PR was that "5 year is hard to find" but then they said that Zingerman's would have it. So 5y is hard to find but... Zingerman's in A2 would have it? Mmmkay.

(b) When I asked about the blossom cheese, which has something running through it, the man who answered my question said that what was in the cheese were the flowers that the cows graze on that end up in the cheese. (b) But the man didn't even look up from his task to engage me, make eye contact, smile. He simply answered my question as he was cutting into a meat. Mmmkay.

I was there with a friend and my son. We sampled about half a dozen cheeses and purchased half a pound of four cheeses and half a pound of smoked coppa, which was outstanding. We also decided to eat lunch there. I got the $28 The Italian sandwich which was outstanding and reminded me of a muffaletta. No sides. My friend got the Wagyu reuben for $19 (IIRC) and it came with 4 pickles the size of my pinky (the "side"). My son got the Wagyu dog. When they asked me if my son wanted mustard on the dog? I asked if it was spicy, because my son (who's non-verbal) does not like spicy. The response was "Well, it's not...not spicy." Mmmkay.

(c) When we were leaving after eating in the establishment, one of the employees we passed was describing a wine to a customer as "sensitive". I have a friend who's a Sommelier and I mentioned this to her. She's never met a sensitive wine. lol. Also as we were walking out, tthe same man who described the flowers was standing there looking at a shelf of products. I said thank, you have a nice day. Again, no turning to face us, smile, or make eye contact. With his back to us, he said thank you.

Like the wine, I thought maybe I was being sensitive but when we got in the car, my friend turned to me and said, "Was it me or did this place have an attitude?" So turns out maybe the wine and I are not really sensitive. The establishment gives off a "hipster" vibe with a bit of a " 'tude ".

I expect attitude from Midtown, B'ham, GP communities or when I'm in Vail, CO. But not in Berkley, MI. Please.

I dropped $140 in the establishment. You would think that they would at least engage their customers a bit more with regards to what I described in (a), (b) and (c) above. Like I said, I was satisfied with the young woman's service and the products, but I am not sure I will return. Overall, I did not feel welcomed.

So if you wear skinny jeans and would bike there on your $2000 bike, then this place is for you.

But if you're someone who believes that attitudes should be left at the door and passing judgement has no place in customer service, then you may want to look elsewhere. Sounds like Zingerman's is the place to go. lol.

Pros
Quality products with a feeling of having been "curated". Loved that.
Prepared food turnaround was quick and food was very flavorful.
Some staff very polite (the initial woman that helped us)
