Another fun and excellent meal at Sam's!! We sat in a booth and it was festive and felt like old time SF. The service was great, the fish is always fantastic and the salads are also excellent. The delicious Jane bread also compliments the meal.

the best fish in the city, across the board. fresh, cooked to order, exact number of potatoes requested. simple preparations done right make the fish the star.

We love eating @ Sam's because the food is consistently very good. This time I had the plumpest octopus & my friend had cioppino, which he loved. One more thing. We always have a lot to discuss & we are always left alone & not told to leave. Of course, we will be back.

One of THE best places for lunch in downtown SF. We have never had a bad meal there. Freshest oysters and lovely king salmon. Very professional service.

Always consistent, classic dishes served by very professional waitstaff. Warm, welcoming clubby atmosphere for regulars and new customers alike. Standard cocktails like martinis, old fashioneds, negronis and manhattans done perfectly. Wine list is eclectic but approachable for people with all tastes in wine. Overall, a great experience every time. For more casual, but equally good service and food, check out Sam's Tavern next door to watch your favorite team or sport.

Service was outstanding. Some food presentations and taste were lacking creativity and flavor. The Shrimp Cocktail, for instance, was just a few sad looking shrimp on a plate of ice and lettuce. Not very appetizing. Nice place. Not sure if there was really anything to convince me to return. Parking right across the street worked well. People were mostly friendly.

Perfect touch of old world San Francisco serving impeccably prepared food in a serene setting with gracious service.

A gem of San Francisco's claim to noir ambiance. So good to have it and to see that so many people are bringing the city back to life!

This place never disappoints. We had a great waiter. And great fish and salads and drinks.

Sam's never disappoints— delicious food, professional waitstaff, impeccable service, perfect location. A San Francisco tradition for a first-rate meal, no frills just business, with a large menu that will suit every taste.

Our group of 8 friends enjoyed a delightful dinner at Sam's Grill. The food was delicious, the server was wonderfully attentive without hovering, the side room where we were seated allowed for us to hear each other. Most of our party had halibut or crab Louie and thoroughly enjoyed them as well as the fried artichoke and crab cake appetizers. It was a first time at Sam's for many of us, and we will be back!

First time at this SF restaurant institution and it won't be my last. The host was super kind and gave us a private booth for just me and husband, what a treat. We were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary and that small attention to detail went unnoticed. Our server Stefano was so charming, welcoming and treated us like family. The sommelier also stopped by to chat with us, we had a great conversation about the restaurants history. Everyone was so attentive to us and our needs. Best experience! I'm so glad we finally stopped in and definitely recommend it.

Food was consistent, if not excellent. I have been a Sam's customer for decades. I am a fan. Perhaps it was a one-off, but service was surprisingly distracted. Our waiter was slow to bring the wonderful bread, so we waited ten minutes after ordering and the bread came nearly simultaneously with the appetizers; except that only three of the appetizers came out and the waiter said the other would come shortly (this hasn't been my experience). We waited for a while and then found the waiter - he had forgotten about us. We were half way through our appetizers when the main courses came, so it was that scene with eight or nine plates full of food on the table at the same time as we finished appetizers. Five or ten minutes later one of our guests mentioned that the glass of wine they had ordered (now half an hour ago) had not arrived. Again we tracked down our waiter and again he had forgotten about it. No one was difficult, but the whole experience was disappointing. I am sure they can do better and hope they do.

The management team was so accommodating and supportive when my business lunch was delayed an hour. The were gracious with the delay (my guest went to the wrong Sam's Grill in Sausalito) and the found time that worked later that day. Andrea (sp?) made our lunch fun. Her smiles, patience, and attention to detail answering questions was invaluable. We hope to return there soon and will be bringing my family for the experience. The oysters Rockefeller are incredible.

Delicious food and attentive service! Great place for seafood lovers! Branzino was a lot of work, but really tasty! Hubby had halibut! Generous portion and he loved it!
