I’m pretty sure the taller slim woman that generally works the register intentionally put a chemical of some sort in my coffee for reasons that are unclear to me. I’ve visited this location a hand full of times and unfortunately was scarred my last visit. I could taste something was off with the taste of the coffee I ordered. That night I fell sick with food poisoning, it was aweful. This place is a firm PASS!
For all of the places you can get coffee in downtown Ferndale, Red Hook is great for service and prices fairly. Staff is friendly and patient when I have no clue what I want. Treats are variable and taste wonderful. The outdoor seating during the warm months makes it fun to work from the side of 9 Mile.
Keep it up, Red Hook!

Proper coffee place serving baked treats and snacks. The mocha was good and frothy. Well done. Nice sidewalk tables and chairs outside and in.

By far, the best coffee ☕️ in the Royal Oak/Ferndale area that I have had yet. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great places here, but this one is my favorite to date.

I came in right as they were closing and didn’t realize. They were super nice and still made me my coffee, which was a delicious iced oat milk latte. I’ll definitely be back when they’re not about to close ☺️

Good cortado. Sometimes long lines, due to popularity. No sit down areas.

The coffee is good, inexpensive, but also fresh. The baked good are varied, and sometimes have different offerings each day.
I wish the staff were friendlier, and took more pleasure in explaining their coffee/options than they are, but overall, could be worse.
First time trying this establishment since recently relocating to this area. Based off reviews I tried a simple cortado & it was exactly what I needed, bold & smooth to taste.
Both the rosemary shortbread & mixed berry poptart were lovely surprises, there is a reason the in-house fresh baked goods are mentioned repeatedly, beyond my expectations 🫶🏼☕

Got a cold brew coffee with almond milk, and a salted chocolate caramel cake slice. It was amazing. Not sure if it was because I needed coffee in my body but I drank it so quick! The cake slice was moist and flavorful, really enjoyed it. I also got a vegan peanut butter bar which is always good. Much better than the location in Detroit!

Quiet enough to talk, nice vibes.
Great service. Funky coffee cups though. Fumbled like a fool trying to get the lid on. The guy behind the counter saved me. Great coffee friendly and helpful staff.
ETA: I truly love this coffee and my partner wanted this today. We were in ferndale and so we tried it again. Our experience with Christina was awesome! Barista gave me my heart on my drink (no heart the 1st visit)! It was a great experience, amazing vibes, and awesome customer service! Thank you! Don’t forget to try the rosemary shorties!
Original review: First and last time to this location. Excellent latte and the flavor of the beans used are so good with a bold yet smooth taste. However, customer service sucked and made it difficult to enjoy my latte. Upon entering the establishment and arriving at the register no greeting was received despite eye contact being made while walking to the counter to place my order. I did not feel welcome here at all (approx 8a). Oddly enough, I went to the location on Jefferson and had a great experience with the cashier and the barista (around 4p) just yesterday. So great, that it led to me to google to see what other locations they have so I didn’t have to drive downtown again, which prompted my visit to Ferndale.
I've been coming here since the beginning. I'm a fan of the oatmeal cream pies, and back in the day there were fruit-bars that were solid. Coffee is always great. I've not really been caring for the pourover selection lately, too many co-fermented, anaerobic types that I feel are just a fad. The selection is also getting pricier for individual bags.
It'd be nice if there was more seating, or different style seating, or an actual window bartop would be cool.
