On our first trip to Grand Haven we had an amazing lunch on a beautiful day that happened to be our anniversary. We had one of our adult children with us as well. We called ahead and they were very friendly. Service was great and the food was delicious.

The Kirby has the best atmosphere of anywhere downtown. The older building and interior design are awesome and I love all the outdoor seating options. The staff is always great but they lose me at the food. I’ve tried everything bowls, pasta, pizza, burgers, and steak and always leave disappointed.

On 8/30/25 at around 11:00pm, Mike Gillard the bouncer confiscated my real ID claiming it was fake, and denied my entrance. I didn’t call the cops because he ended up giving my ID back but I am extremely disappointed that I was unable to enter Kirby. I didn’t want to call the emergent 911 line as I didn’t see this situation as an emergency. Just leaving this here so other people are aware of the issue.

Visited on a Monday night about 6:30. As I walked through the restaurant to our table, I noticed that the restaurant stunk. Once we were seated I couldn't smell it so we went ahead and ordered. Our order was a supreme pizza and the Thai lettuce wraps. As we waited for our there were flies on and around our table. The food arrived quickly, however it was terrible. I honestly believe the pizza or at least the crust was frozen. There was far too much corn meal on the bottom of the crust and the cheese was an off texture. The lettuce wraps would have been okay if the chicken wasn't unseasoned and dry. I was so disappointed, it was our anniversary and we wanted a good meal. We barely touched our food and went to Russ's when we left.
My fiancé and I opted for lunch on the roof top. The weather and view were equally beautiful. The food was delicious, we ordered the Tuna Poke Bowl and the Lobster Roll. We will definitely visit The Kirby House again, til next time.

Came to Grand Haven to attend the Friday night music event and made time to get a meal before the concert. We had not been to The Kirby House before and decided to give it a try. We were seated promptly and our server was welcoming and he was very attentive through our stay. However disappointment soon followed. Looking around at the the dark furniture, dirty carpet and graffitied brick, this restaurant has outlived whatever charm it once may have had. We just ordered a pizza since we were short on time but our pizza came out burnt and rock hard on the edges. As mentioned by others I was taken aback by the 3% charge and the fact that cash was not accepted. Why have these irritants in a business dedicated to serving people? As a result we decided that since Grand Haven has plenty of options for a meal and we like visiting the city, we will not consider another visit to The Kirby House.

They added a 3.5% fee and nothing was disclosed! Just tell me before the meal, not when I received the bill. A burger is $18.75 w/o fries, plus the added fee: sorta shitty.
