Great atmosphere, as soon as I came in. The bartenders Emilio and Mari took care of me and were very attentive and very well versed in the current bar scene. Got to try their mushroom burger it was so absolutely delicious. I also got to try their “surprise me” drink a bartenders choice apart of Dry January. A blue raspberry lemonade took be back to the vacation I just recently went on, couldn’t have asked for more with that. The GM Maggie also shared the rich history of Atwater, Overall great experience and I’m definitely coming back again!
Great service and really outstanding beer
Since they switched ownership, they have a new chef that has completely turned things around in here! The food is freshly prepared, specials are creative, and the service has been excellent. I have lunch in here a couple times a month and I'm never disappointed.
Bartender Marisol was super kind and made the experience quite enjoyable!
We didn’t come in for beer and it didn’t matter because our meals were delicious! The spicy chicken sandwich had excellent flavors as did the chili. Definitely recommend for a casual lunch or dinner.
Very cool venue with great beer selection
What a nice brewpub , ambience is good, the brew is great, and the food very good
1st time and not to be the last, we enjoyed tasty brews like “dirty blonde ale “ and immediately liked this place, they have about 30 on tap, wow.
The food (I had the Rubin) was very good from the bread to heaping of the tasty meat
Their staff was diligent and attentive, we were taken aback by this friendly place
If there were a complaint it would be parking downtown (not good) , not their fault
We have placed Atwater on our list of favorite micro brew pubs
Note : happy hour is 3:13 to 6:16 and best time to be there (they are based out of 313 area of Detroit, now in 616)
Great place, good food, good times to be had
Great little microbrew in downtown Grand Rapids. We arrived at 6:16 and was able to take advantage of Happy hour! 😁 My vanilla porter was very delicious and hubby liked his hazy IPA 🤤 Food was good and tasty😋
How is this place still in business?
We ask ourselves that every time we drive by. You’ve got a great location—aside from the parking, which is the only thing anyone should be complaining about. The convention center is close, and you’re not far from the boom on Bridge St. So why is no one here?
Once a year or so we give it another try, and today was no different—just a bite and a beer. The wait for food was long, and when it finally arrived, it was barely warm, like it had been sitting there for a while before making it to the table.
While we were waiting, we noticed the signs on other tables showing there are happy hour food and drink specials. Why not mention that when greeting customers—or better yet, post it on social media so people actually know?
I see there’s trivia on Monday nights, but again, how would anyone know if you don’t advertise it? Same with other events—why not try more and actually promote them?
Clearly you’ve managed to stay open, but it’s hard to see how much longer that can last without improving the basics and actually getting the word out. It’s not a mystery why the place is empty—it’s the experience. Until that changes, once a year is more than enough for us.
It was our first time at Atwater Brewing, and the experience couldn’t have been better! The bartender was fantastic—knowledgeable about both the beer and food menus, and full of great recommendations. We each enjoyed the Juicy IPA, shared a giant pretzel, and tried the apple sauerkraut pierogies. Everything was delicious. A wonderful pub with a welcoming vibe!

Great Beers and food was good. We had a fantasy football draft there and the service was great.
It had been a minute since I stopped into Atwater. The staff were very welcoming, the beer was great. I had their cherry stout and sampled their sour. The venison chili cheese brat blew me away. I came in to relax for a bit. Didn't expect to have the best brat I've ever had. Haha. Great job, guys!!
The place is filthy! It is also empty on a Sunday at noon and the bartender is doing nothing! Cobwebs and filth!
An enjoyable stop in the heart of downtown GR.
Food was good, service was terrible. Our waitress left in the middle of our meal and didnt tell us. Apparently she was the manager which in my eyes is worse. The other waitress that took over failed to bring us water after she said she was going to bring water twice.
