Would love to say I tried their food for the first time, but I had a terrible customer service experience instead. I showed up at the shop an hour before close (7 PM on a Friday), and was surprised to find the doors locked. I saw someone behind the counter, knocked on the door, and no one can to explain why they were closed an hour before the close time clearly displayed on the door. Other customers came after me and were equally confused. No explanation was given from the employee inside. Absolutely unprofessional, and unacceptable. Would never go back, and will suggest alternatives if anyone considers going to this place. Sad as I would have liked to support the local shop as a local resident...
Their service was great, their food was incredible!! Highly recommend.
This place used to be amazing. Now it’s everything but amazing. It has gone down hill very fast.
The food was amazing, service was quick, great hospitality. Had an inside diner looked very clean good environment all round I give it a 4 out of 5
My go to spot for a quick sandwich, weather your vegan, vegetarian or a carnivore you'll find something. They have like 3.5 million sandwiches to choose from.
Some of the best sandwiches in Grand Rapids. Any sandwich can be made Gluten Free as well which is very helpful! I've loved everything I've tried so far.
I mean I struggle to give bad reviews as restaurants are bouncing back from the pandemic. The food is good as in the past. But the service is just absolute hot garbage, and the staff is so short with the people in line as well as patrons waiting for orders. They acted like they were so busy and it appeared to just be a regular afternoon.I hope more that management sees this and helps them out. I know it's hard to find people now but that's the struggle of owning a business. Let's kick it up and be the restaurant you used to be. Because I like this place and will try again. But the conversations on the deck were of people trying it for the first time and I'm not sure if they will be back based on very public conversations we were all having
Best sandwiches in gr
We used to look forward to enjoying a Hawthorne sandwich here, but after today I don’t think we will be back. The cole slaw used had changed and isn’t as good. We ordered a whole and there was hardly any deli meat on it. Overall the flavor was off and not worth over $23 for two sandwiches. Also, the floors in the lobby were filthy- doesn’t seem like a hygenic place to eat. We miss the old flavors and value for our food. It’s too bad so much had changed and it seems to be poorly run.
All of the sandwiches I have had here were excellent and recommend this place to everyone now.

Great food but the last two times I've tried to get food here they are closed when the hours on google say they are open. This has caused me frustration after looking over the massive menu to find out I just wasted my time.
Poor customer service. Young man who took my order was pleasant enough, but not very knowledgeable and made mistakes. The young woman who made my sandwich seemed to know what she was doing, but she was very unpleasant. It seems like she wanted to be anywhere else but there. Wrong bread was initially brought out for my order but it was corrected. No one else was in the deli at the time, and while my sandwich was being made, I asked if I could please get a side of mayonnaise, since only Italian dressing was listed for the sandwich I ordered. Woman making my order did not even look at me, nor did she vocalize a response, she simply nodded her head and avoided eye contact. It was actually quite rude. My order was bagged and handed to me, when I looked inside, the cookie I ordered and paid for was not in there. I had to ask for it. No apology or even a “oh I’m sorry I forgot” was offered. The sandwich had a good amount of meat, but only a little scrap of a piece of lettuce, and no cheese (but that is on me, not looking to see if cheese was listed in the ingredients). I guess one just assumes that in an Italian sub at least a slice of cheese would be included ... but not here. While the sandwich tasted OK, the whole experience was rather sad. $10.50 was expensive for this sandwich, and why can’t people just be nice, maybe even helpful when they’re in a customer service position? Is it really too much to ask?
BEST SANDWICH SHOP IN GRAND RAPIDS!!!I love Cherry Street Deli, the food is always fresh and prepared from the hands of god himself. I recommend “The Eastern” if you want your tastebuds tap dancing for the duration of your meal. I could type 25 more paragraphs about the deliciousness of the damn cookies but I won’t.Lovely place, great people, and better food!
Threw away my food. I've eaten here several times over the years and went back there for the first time since the pandemic. I got the same order I always get: East Hills, no mayo. I also ordered a cookie. Bag came up, no cookie. Oh well, I guess I'll live longer. Get food back to place, COVERED IN MAYO. This was not a hard order. Just me, a single sandwich, one other customer inside, and you still eff it up. How?!? I won't be back.
This spot is just right up the road from my apartment and I'm so glad that I found it. They are so good and everything which I've had it hits the spot. I love the large menu ?
