Mediocre hotel rooms for the price you will pay. Front desk staff is not trained to provide you Hilton experience, management needs to wake up.If you get lucky to stay in the tower, your room will probably be nicer but most rooms are on the older side of the hotel and it definitely shows. Closet, bedroom, Bathroom are in need of a serious facelift. Carpet has huge nasty red stains, disgusting for a Hilton Curio brand!!Furniture is so old. Bed frames are old & dirty. No pens, notepad on writing table. No housekeeping service on demand.Definitely won’t be staying here again. Don’t be fooled by the name “grand” it’s the river. You can stay at a Holiday Inn or Marriot and have a much nicer room for cheaper.Rooms: Old old and outdated. Just not a Hilton curio collection that is advertised. The right wing needs to be shutdown or hugely discounted for 2-3 star quality

Stayed there for a show. The building really needs an update, especially for the price. There was no clock in the room, no USB to charge my phone, and no coffee pot. The staff was great, very friendly. The lobby and hotel itself was beautiful.

We just got to our room and are here for a work conference. If you get lucky to stay in the tower, your room will probably be nicer but our room is on the older side of the hotel and it definitely shows. Bathrooms are in need of a major facelift. Our curtains have huge nasty stains. Bedding has stains and hairs on the blanket. Definitely won’t be staying here again. Only reason we are keeping our reservation is because the room was paid for. For $250 a night, I’d expect a much nicer hotel. You can stay at a Holiday Inn and have a nicer room for cheaper. The room and bathroom are so small too.

Was disappointed with my experience and room see the photos below for how dusty and moldy the room was. First, I get there check in go to my room to use the digital key which did not work on my room but worked on the vending area. I had to go back downstairs to get a key desk accusing me that am I sure this is my room. I suggest Ann showed her my Hilton honors App with my room number that I had chosen. She says oh, that must’ve been the person that stayed in the room just before you. Once I get my room, I had a great view, but everything was super dusty, and that maintained to the standards I expected from the Amway grand Plaza Hotel. The Bell service is very courteous and helpful. I went down to the Wolfgang pucks restaurant ordered some crabcakes which looked like puppies and did not taste like they had any crab at all in them. They told me to come back in 10 minutes to pick up my order 25 minutes later I had to ask. Very disappointing with a $23 bill. I was pretty disappointed in my stay so I checked out a day early. I didn’t think the dusty moldy room I had was worth $500 a night.Rooms: I think they need to do a very deep clean in these rooms through my head cost $500 a night and was very dusty with a lot of mold in the grout in that vacuum properly around the window.Safety: Right by the parking garage where you have to come out there are a lot of homeless people in that area and it doesn’t feel safe.

Me and my friends stayed in the grand hotel last minute just for fun. We were so excited to have this experience because the rooms are so pricey we said why not just for 1 night. Check in wasn’t until 4:30pm. And by the time we got our bags up to the room and settled in we wanted to go to the pool but it closed at 6pm! Not even time to go to it and check it out. Not to mention that price didn’t even include breakfast or anything. Our room was on the 1st floor and we paid over $500 for a room that had a view of the roof. The room didn’t even have a microwave in it. We went out for dinner and drinks and had to go back to the room a couple of times and each time we walked into the building we were harassed by the staff asking us if we were staying here. After falling asleep in the perfectly average room I was awaken at 4am by the room above me. For an hour I laid there listening to people stomping and running around. It was so incredibly loud I could hear everything. So I called the front desk after it didn’t stop. They said they would call them and ask them to quiet down. Another half an hour goes by and nothing happens. So at 5am with no sleep I go down to the lobby. There is a line of people waiting to check out and 1 person working the desk. Finally I get to tell them what’s going on and they did not care at all.It was the worst sleep I’ve ever gotten at a hotel. I would have preferred a motel 6. I understand that it is a historical building but if the walls are paper thin and you don’t get a view of anything you can’t charge $500 a night with no breakfast or anything. Make the rooms without views less because it’s just robbery. It was a huge waste of money. I will never recommend anyone to stay there. If your visiting just go get a drink at the bar do not stay there you will regret it.Walkability: Far away from downtown and if you take a carriage is $8 a person for like a 5 minute ride!

This property is starting to show its age. Carpets that need replacing, grout that needs repair, elevators that need a good stain and polish, and oddly positioned toilet paper roll holders and shower doors that force you to get wet to turn on the water. In the 80’s, I bet this was one of the nicest hotels in the state. I give credit that they have made clear strides to keep the hotel in good shape, and I do plan to stay again.Nearby activities: DeVos Performance Hall, Gerald Ford Presidential Library, hike and bike trail, dining, night life.Walkability: This property is in the heart of downtown, in a very walkable area, right on the trail.Food & drinks: Dozens of great places to eat and drink onsite or within a 5 minute walk.

Awful experience! While I was away from the room with a do not disturb sign on my door, someone had clearly entered my room. Later that night I noticed new towels in the bathroom. There were a few drinks we had in the room that appeared to have been drank, pink and brown blotches and what looked like dirt on the bed and spots all over the sheets. I reached out to the front desk to complain. They said they would send someone up with sheets and asked if I'd like to get security involved. I told them yeah, since they mentioned to me they have security cameras everywhere. No security ever came to my room that night. Someone did stop by my room 30 minutes later to hand me new sheets to redo the nasty bed myself. They didn't even take the nasty sheets away. Some of the sheets they handed me were still wet. I did go down to the front desk the following morning to ask if security ever did anything. I was told that there are no cameras on guest floors and that I can speak to security to file a report, which I did. This was a completely awful hotel experience! Also, be careful for the homeless drug addicts that seem to live next to the hotel garage exit near the stairs! Not sure how this can be considered a 4 star hotel...

The hotel is beautiful for starters, but that can’t be the only wonderful thing about this hotel. The location is prime and perfectly centered downtown. Unfortunately, the night time front desk staff are absolutely horrendous. I walked into the lobby to ask where I could purchase a drink (water or pop), they advised me that there were vending machines on every floor near the elevators. I told them I didn’t see any vending machine near the elevator and she proceeded to get snarky and just simply say “they’re there”. I did what they said and went to the fourth floor to check if the vending machine was there- were none by the center elevator- which front desk neglected to say. Once I found the vending machine over by the Ruth Chris elevator it wasn’t even functional. I took the elevator up to the fifth and the same scenario there but this time I was greeted by security. The vending machines are not maintained, don’t work properly, and staff clearly aren’t trained on customer service.

Had a good time during my convention stay. Centrally located and food spots were close by. Rooms were comfortable and had no issues during the stay. A nice visit.

We got here and had upgraded to a junior suite. Upon walking into our suite we realized our room was surrounded by families with very loud kids - which is fine! But it’s our anniversary and we wanted to be away from kiddos. We went down and talked to the front desk and they moved us without any trouble to a fabulous room with a river view. The service here is fabulous, the rooms are well kept and comfy, and the hotel itself is historic and just makes you feel special while you’re here. Thank you all for a great stay!!!

A very good hotel for many reasons. Every interaction with a staff member was excellent, wish other hotels trained and hired good people like this hotel. Good shopping right in the lobby, mens and women’s, dresses, suit jackets, lots of clothes, also essentials, food, pop, gifts, even a liquor store that was reasonably priced for a hotel. There’s a Starbucks too! The Wolfgang Puck bar and restaurant was excellent, food and drinks were very good. Nice fitness, pool and spa facilities. They have two Pickle Ball Courts! Overall the property is generally clean and taken care of but it is dated, showing its age with signs of wear. Maintenance was very responsive to a number of minor maintenance issues from the group of wedding guests that we were part of. Mini-fridge had a broken door they replaced it immediately, one of the four elevators needed reprogramming, they responded immediately, one room had a spot of mold, they gave the guest another room immediately no hassles. Valet parking is only $4 more than self park so why park yourself. Many many 4-5 Google star restaurants and shops within short walking distance. The view from our room was exceptional. We’ll stay here again.

I was here for a conference and had a lovely experience. I was welcomed by Nicole, and I was given a room on the 21st floor of the tower. The view was spectacular!!! The room was spacious and bright. The location was convenient, and conference amenities are top-notch. Excellent pool, hot tub, and fitness room. Pickle ball courts and a nice spa. Great restaurants and activities are nearby, as well as museums. We will definitely be back for leisure!

Tower room was very warm even though I turned the thermostate to 63 degrees. Room was not totally clean. Bathtub needed a good scrub and there was a hair in the soap dish. Also, the room had a very pungent odor.

Was at the Amway for a convention. One elevator was not in working order, which caused a 30-minute delay just to get up to the room when the convention was released for the day. One of the other 3 elevators got stuck with people on it.The prices for food were more than if you ate at the airport and not Michelin star rated food. The beds were comfortable, and nice sized showers. In 7 days, we never had service performed in the room. Their policy is 5 days, then they clean. Not in our case. We had to continually ask for clean towels and toilet paper.Safety: There were a lot of homeless people who walked up and approached you from all exits of the hotel. One of our attendees was attacked by one.

Found mold in several places. Hallways to rooms and in rooms (vents, carpet, and showers). Front desk manager did not feel it was a priority to thoroughly clean the mold in a timely fashion.Myself and others became very sick!Rooms are not thoroughly cleaned between guests. Watched a staff member fold up a used extra blanket and pillow (from a previously slept in bed) and put them into the bag they go in before placing them back in the closet.I've read other reviews here when the hotel says they are concerned and things like this won't happen again. Lies, all lies. Nothing has changed. To them it's no big deal.Rooms: Room vents have mold. Showers have mold. Hallways have mold.Safety: Breathing in mold is not safe for those sensitive to it. Check before you stay here.
