This place would be great for big groups and a more casual dining experience. My husband and I were definitely slightly surprised at how loud the atmosphere was here as we were expecting a more upscale dining experience. I had the salmon which was mediocre at best and my husband had the bluegill which he was fond of. Our service was very spotty which is understandable in this day and age with the lack of help at most restaurants. Overall, would not recommend this place if you're looking for a more upscale, romantic dining experience, but it would be great for large, loud groups.

Went here for my birthday dinner. Had a drink at the bar while we waited and the bartender was great. When we sat to eat service was fine, nothing super special. The biggest let down was the food. The menu had a James Beard chef feature so I’m not sure how it was so disappointing. I was so looking forward to the short rib but it was dry and somewhat tough. Not the melty tender meat you’d expect. The beans were unevenly cooked as well. Our group ordered Brussel sprouts that were not crispy they were burnt and taste awful. The burrata wasn’t warm/room temperature like it should be it was cold. The only thing that was delicious were the fried cheese curds. Not that I cared, but they also do nothing for birthdays or events like most places do.Just an overall disappointment especially for the price. Won’t be back.
Great atmosphere, food options and friendly service.

Really great service but the food was just underwhelming. We got the Brussels sprouts app for the two of us and it was enough to feed six people. We both got sandwiches and they were fine. Didn’t hate it and didn’t love it. I was also confused about the decor and there were several spots on the walls where it looked like the paint had been ripped off down to the drywallDietary restrictions: Vegan falafel sandwich

Relaxing, clean environment, wonderful food, great wine! Our server was amazing. Very sweet, attentive, and happy! This restaurant has become a staple when in the area. I look forward to returning!

I love this place. The food is always terrific. Staff is friendly and enthusiastic, and they have a variety of creative cocktails. One of my favorites.

Anna took care of us at the bar during happy hour and did an amazing job! We felt so welcomed and the atmosphere was incredible! Highly recommend stopping here for drinks and apps before a show or just for a fun date night out!
Awesome experience! Some of the best service, I have had in a long time. The food quality was what you would expect, coming from downtown Grand Rapids. Homemade quality. The ultimate question, would I go back; absolutely!!

I tried this restaurant because of location and menu and they did not disappoint. It was a very quick walk from the JW and has great curb appeal and atmosphere. We had oyster shooters and truffle fries to start. Both were excellent and came out quick. For dinner we had the short rib and lamb shank. Both were exceptional in presentation and taste. The lamb and short rib were both extremely tender and delicious. My gf is gluten free so it was a pleasant surprise to see gluten free carrot cake available. She said it was very delicious and moist. I had the chocolate mousse, and it was also delicious. If you are in Grand Rapids, FortyPearl is a must for dinner.

This place has a nice ambiance. They mix a modern style of interior design, with old mismatched China plate-ware, which is an interesting (?) choice. They also mix more upscale menu items like fresh raw oysters, with more downscale items like cheese curds (?). My friend from Wisconsin said they at least were authentically cooked. I appreciated that they use more local wines, and the menu offers pairing suggestions. To that end, the meals we had were just ok, sort of blah, certainly nothing memorable and not worth the pricing. I was excited to see bluegill on the menu , expecting perhaps a freshly coated and decently prepared fish. Unfortunately the coating they use means the fish is pre coated, and not prepared fresh! It was not light and crispy coating as a delicate panfish should have (or better yet, not have...there are plenty of better ways to prepare fish than pretending we are at a state fair?!). It was at best like some cheap chewy coating you'd get at a fast food restaurant. Insulting to the fish tbh. Very disappointing , and tempted to give fewer stars based on that alone. However the French fries were decent, as was the separately ordered salad. Side note to the restaurant: Every entree should always include some sort of vegetable or green! That entree did not. Additionally, we had to ask the waitstaff for more water Instead of being offered, during the meal. Waitstaff was friendly and kind though, when asked. I think if the restaurant stops trying to pull itself in two different directions (in both interior design style, and cuisine value and style) it would be a better place to frequent. I would only recommend this place to a friend who wants to try somewhere new, with the above caveats given in advance.
