The crab cake appetizer and the French onion soup were very good, but the entree's were lack luster. The 8oz sirloin was under seasoned and the Chimichurri sauce was tasteless. The salmon was also very middle of the road. Again, lack of seasoning and a mediocre sauce. Definitely not worth the price.
We really enjoyed the GR Restaurant week menu at Mertens prime, and I glad we went because it introduced us to this amazing restaurant! Kate our waitress was amazing and went over and beyond helping my daughter in law Ruth her food allergies! We will return
Food was rather ordinary for the price. Service was very poor. It took 20 minutes for a server to show up. Waiter seemed to think all martinis are made with vodka. Waiters and runners were unfamiliar with restaurant week offerings. Wife had to eat soup with a fork. Entree arrived before we could finish our appetizer. Entree and desert were not as hot as they should be. Seating in the bar area by the front door was cold and crafty. To their credit the wsiter (who was doing double duty as bartender due to staff shortage) comped our drinks due to all the miscues (even without complaints from us).
They are struggling with service. For example it took 10 minutes to have a server come after being sat then took 15-20 to get cocktails. The server took the appetizer order after the cocktail order and the appetizer came before the cocktails. Some simple decisions though really hold them back. Banquet style chairs like you would see at a wedding, plates that are barely real, cheap water pitchers for example. Lastly, ordering a $120 steak to then use paper napkins made me feel like I was at a BBQ joint. Now the good - the food. Appetizer was pretty yummy and the steak for two was quite good! Oh, and they are giving $10 discounts in return for a 5 star review on Yelp or Google.
Our server was really helpful and knowledgeable about restraurant week and made some great recommendations! Thank you Kate!
We ordered from the restaurant week menu and had a fabulous dining experience! The food was exceptional! Attention to detail by the server was 5 stars!
The service was great, very friendly staff and the restaurant is self looks great. The issue was the food quality. Had the duck wontons and they were just ok, after that the chateaubriand and it was very under seasoned along with the texture of a cheap sirloin steak. Also had a dirty martini with Hendricks gin and it was sweet for some odd reason. We had high hopes but sadly unless this place drastically changes the quality of the food, we will not be back.
The filet I had was excellent. Flavorable and tender. One of the better steaks I have had in a while! Will come here again.
We had a great time event though the server was new and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed.
I was disappointed with the service, atmosphere and experience overall. I wish they would note that the full menu is not served on the rooftop when you make a reservation.

We sat for 25 minutes without anyone waiting on us. We finally flagged down another waitress who had repeatedly walked passed us seeing that we were not being helped. “C” came to our table to fill in. She was wonderful and helpful, doing the best she could without being able to provide details on the entrees. It ruined what was to have been a celebratory dinner for my daughter and her first week of work after college.
Was really disappointed with our experience here. We wanted a nice dinner for our anniversary and this place looked promising. Upon sitting down and ordering drinks/apps, we were told that they were out of almost half the menu. Our first, second, and third picks for meals were all out. The appetizer we want, also out. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles, but the waffles had to be substituted for French toast sticks. Thought this was an upscale restaurant, not a middle school cafeteria. I got the seafood ravioli and the shrimp that topped it was horrible. Truly I have never had worse cooked shrimp. It was so tough and chewy, like eating rubber bands. But considering we waited well over an hour for our food to come out, I was so hungry I ate it anyway. In their slight defense, the waitress offered to see if there was anything they could do about the shrimp, but at that point we just wanted to leave and it wasn't worth the hassle. Everything here took soooo long. Each time I requested a refill, it was a minimum 15 minutes. They may be going through a specifically hard time or hard night, but I would never return. We were celebrating our anniversary and it really killed the whole vibe. Paid a whole lot of money for crappy food that took too long to come out and service that didn't really make up for it.
They were under-staffed. We waited 15 minutes after being seated to receive service. The waiter was extremely disinterested and forgot half of the things we ordered or requested. The gnocchi was clearly store-bought and not very well cooked. The mashed potatoes were refrigerator cold, the service was incredibly slow, and our waiter let us know he was dissatisfied and looking for jobs elsewhere. The waiter also informed the table next to us that the kitchen was “extremely off” and he wouldn't be able to guarantee the quality of anything ordered. I would encourage you to go anywhere else in GR.
Food and drinks are great. Aiden makes the best Lemon Drops and Coffee Martinis in Grand Rapids. Appetizers are a little pricey but all done very well. We will go again.
The views and the nice people working make this one of our favorite after work spots. We like to ask for the corner. Never disappoints.
