I love Joeys! I was recently there and had such a great experience with some of the bouncers TJ, Dustin, and Kratos. They were so kind, and one of the best experiences I have had with bouncers at Joeys or anywhere else in Grand Rapids.

Someone that I know talks about Joey’s Tavern so much that it’s a problem. He’s obsessed with the place and has likely spent thousands upon thousands of dollars there in the past 2 years. Recently he was denied despite being 23 with a real Michigan ID. Now he’s never going back.

A quintessential west side bar. Hits all the marks of a lively dive bar. Love it here!
After reading other reviews it sounds like the bouncer needs terminated as he is bad for business. Second time visiting this establishment with a group of 6, but this time was accused of having a fake ID. I understood and offered up my passport card as a second form of validation which he accepted, but refused to give back my drivers license. Had to call the authorities to get my ID back and we will no longer be visiting this establishment. Loss of business due to power trip bouncer.

I’ve been coming to Joey’s Tavern multiple nights a week for the past few months, but after tonight I won’t be returning. My friends and I were denied entrance despite having real, valid IDs. The security member at the door even admitted our IDs were real, yet still refused to let us in for no reason. On top of that, he was extremely disrespectful toward us throughout the interaction.
We’ve supported this place consistently and never had an issue until now. It was disappointing and unprofessional, and we’ll be taking our business elsewhere moving forward. Very unfortunate experience.
