Motherland is a small West African grocery that also sells food for takeout. I don’t think there’s anyplace to sit down, but the staff was friendly. I had the egusi soup with fufu, and I splurged with a side of jollof rice. It was very filling, but quite good. The soup was rich and earthy, and the rice had good flavor with some pepper and spice. My friend had the goat meat pepper soup, and he said the flavor was good although the meat was maybe overcooked. Overall, I found the food to be an exciting departure from the norm in West Michigan, and I’ll be sure to try their other dishes in the future.

We had never had this type of food before and we truly enjoyed it! The lady and her son working there are very kind and very helpful with what to try off the menu. The building itself is nothing to brag about but the food certainly is!! We loved the fufu and egusi soup!! We also had the chicken and Turkey soup which was our favorite! The meat pies were good but not like that chicken and Turkey soup!! We will definitely be returning to this takeout!

I ordered the oxtails & it was oddly tuff & i got home after eating it threw up serval times for 2 in a half days i even still have sharp stomach pain due to this . I got food poisoning from here & im very disappointed because this was my first time trying their food & since I’ve got food poisoning here id prolly never recommend here again .

We decided to celebrate Juneteenth by going out and supporting African cultured small businesses and by rejoicing in it. We loved everything we ordered and rejoice we did! The hospitality was great and food was ready fairly quickly. We're looking forward to coming back.
